Dumb Criminal - Bank Robber appeared on TV show Deadliest Catch
If you’re a suspected bank robber, there are any number of ways to keep a low profile.

This isn’t one of them: Join a top-rated cable TV reality show, get watched each week by 3 million people and — to top it off — make a spectacle of yourself, thereby ensuring that you embed yourself into the public consciousness.

Joshua Tel Warner, 23, of Oakridge, was arrested in East Peoria, Ill., Wednesday night on an arrest warrant for three robberies at Eugene banks between October 2007 and August 2009, Eugene police said Thursday.

There are a couple of surprises to this tale, including the fact that Eugene police were completely unaware that Warner was in custody in Illinois when they held a press conference Thursday morning to announce that they were looking for him.

-----

But the kicker, of course, is what originally led to Warner’s capture: Eugene police had long been unable to identify Warner, let alone find him — until, that is, he joined a popular show on cable TV.
