'Suspicious' Christmas ornament diverts plane to Nashville....
insanity rules......

An Orlando, Fla.-bound Northwest Airlines flight from Detroit was diverted to Nashville on Friday morning after a suspicious item was discovered on board the plane.

The object was a Christmas ornament.

"A suspicious item was found, and out of an abundance of caution, the pilot decided to divert to Nashville," Delta Air Lines spokesman Carlos Santos said. Delta recently acquired Northwest.

The flight landed in Nashville and passengers got off the plane before the item was identified, Santos said.

Santos could not say what exactly led to all the concern about the item.

Northwest 2364 had 75 passengers and five crew members. The plane involved was an Airbus 320.

The diversion and landing occurred about 8:30 a.m., Delta said

Passengers later reboarded the flight, and the plane made it to Orlando International Airport before 1 p.m., an airport spokesman said.

The incident comes exactly one week after a man flying from Nigeria to Amsterdam and then to the U.S. on a Northwest Airlines flight tried to ignite an explosive as the plane prepared to land in Detroit.

Santos could not say whether that incident, which renewed concerns about air travel, influenced the pilot's decision to divert the flight.

1. Christmas is mounting a strong counter-offensive in this year's war.

2. Americans should be vigilant when it comes to detering terrorism
Keep your eyes and ears open when out in public. Monitor your community and make note of anything that doesn't seem quite right. We can defeat the terrorists who wish to destroy our country.

4. You know what I mean
In a post 9/11 America, vigilance against terrorists should be at the top of everyone's lists. We must never forget what happened on that day.

7. The question is who are the terrorists
The lobbyists, the bankers, the politicians, the Fundie teabaggers and crusaders?
I give up because to everyone in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere who had relatives killed by the US army or its drones, the US are the terrorists and no propaganda will change that.

6. fear, Fear, FEAR
You know, your little rant reminds me all too much of the cold warriors who wanted us to be hypervigilant to the point of seeing what wasn't there. "Are Bolsheviks in your Bathroom" and all that rot.

You know what that leads to, a police state, a fascist police state where neighbors spy on neighbors, and innocents have their lives ruined.

Is terrorism a danger, certainly, but the fact of the matter is that the odds of a terrorism attack killing Americans is much, lower than death by car, gun, knife, lightning, etc. All that this hyperscreaming about terrorism does is bring out the worst in Americans as far as jingoism and xenophobia are concerned, and allows our democratic country become a fascist one.

Congratulations for becoming part of the problem, not part of the solution.
