50 million Americans are illegally abusing prescription medication
Edited on Sat Jan-02-10 09:41 AM by MrScorpio
Where is the DEA?

Where is the FDA?

Why aren't there any TV programs talking about this except for Oprah and Current TV?

Where are the reality TV show drug busters?

Why isn't Big Pharma behind bars?

Isn't it just more than a coincidence the Rush Limpballs moved his lie factory to Florida, the state with most impotent laws against prescription medication abuse?

So... Why all the effort against Marijuana, cocaine, meth and heroin and very little about the FIFTY MILLION AMERICANS ABUSING PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION?

Answers, anyone?

7. Partnership for a Drug-Free America has never, AFAIK, taken on prescription drugs
Had they done so, they would no longer be in business...

3. Thanks to people like Rush, many are self-medicating .
Many people with chronic pain syndromes are not receiving proper pain medications due to increase FDA regulations and it's affect on doctors. Perhaps those with other health problems can't wait a month before they see a doctor and are simply ordering online.

15. It's a sad state of affairs.
As people get more desperate they will eventually commit some crime, many unwittingly.

drugs that you actually need from Canada.

6. I wonder why?
Seems to me that every damn commercial is for some freaking bullshit ailment or another. "Ask your doctor..." Rx drugs have replaced snack food commercials.

10. I know 2
I know 2 who were abusing Vicodin and Oxycontin. One was a 15 year old boy, who hopefully was caught in time. The other was a 40 year old woman who freaked out on Christmas Eve and beat up her 65 year old father before being taken away by the police in handcuffs. Unfortunately, they can't force her to stay in rehab unless the family members are willing to press criminal charges, which they won't do.

13. People can't afford to continue. so they switch to heorin
Edited on Sat Jan-02-10 10:04 AM by JPZenger
According to what I read, many people start on Oxycontin and Vicodin and get addicted. They crush the pills to get around the time release design of the pills. They often cost $70 a pill, which few people can afford to continue. To find a similar but cheaper high, they switch to heorin.

This problem does get some media attention because it often involves upper middle class people from the suburbs vs. inner city people that don't often get media attention.

One question is: could the manufacturers modify these drugs to make them less attractive to abusers? Or are they making big money off the illegal use?

12. Careful what you wish for.
The PIC would be happy to also incarcerate everyone getting high off pharma.

18. Exactly right. They want to get as many people as possible

"in the system". They would pitch a conniption if you were to point out that they're abusing the "arrest and incarcerate" drug
which most of them are strongly addicted to.

14. TV drug dealer ads are scary. LEGAL drugs seem to be far
more dangerous than illegal drugs. With legal drugs, even if they are used as prescribed, the side effects are often fatal...and
they SAY so right in the sales pitch. ILLEGAL drugs are rarely fatal unless abused.
