TWO QUOTES FROM TWO GREAT AMERICANS
Edited on Sun Jan-03-10 12:07 AM by Cassandra2010

“Too long have the workers of the world waited for some Moses to lead them out of bondage. I would not lead you out if I could; for if you could be led out, you could be led back again. I would have you make up your minds there is nothing that you cannot do for yourselves.”

- Eugene Debs

"Years ago," he famously declared, "I recognized my kinship with all living beings and made up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on earth. I said then, and I say now, that while there is a lower class I am in it, while there is a criminal element I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free."

- Eugene Debs

5. No, I'm a socialist
How closely allied are your "liberal values" with the "conservatives" that you decry? Have you ever considered this in between witch hunts? Careful now.

6. I am surprised by Malcolm X.
I heard someone once say that the Black man judges a person by his actions; a White man judges a whole group by the actions of anyone belonging to that group.

The quotes about White liberals don't apply to many who have helped Blacks in the past. It certainly does not apply to today's youngsters who do not see color at all - i.e. when they looked at Obama, they saw the person and not the color.

8. Cite me some examples
of how Obama has spoken and acted on behalf of the Black Man incarcerated unjustly in America's penal colony.

Obama's main line is "personal responsibility" and avoids all talk of institutional and structural racism. That works against justice and flies in the face of truthful reality.

10. Obama is not there for you, he is there for us. His greatest speech was about
race, and realism. Did you miss it? I urge you to google it, because I'm not going to feed you info. You have your own mindset that begs the question why you're here to begin with. But that will be sussed out.

14. The early, more radical Malcolm... see below
http://www.malcolm-x.org/speeches/spc_120463.htm

God's Judgement of White America (The Chickens Come Home to Roost)
Malcolm X, edited by Imam Benjamin Karim

December 4 , 1963

note - this speech was delivered before Malcolm left the Nation of Islam and accepted true Islam -- so his views in this speech do not reflect his own or those he held near the end of his life.

This speech is sometimes called "The Chickens Come Home To Roost," because of an answer Malcolm X gave in response to a question following the speech. The question concerned the late President John Kennedy. It was Malcolm X's answer, that the Presidents death was a case of "chickens coming home to roost" -- that the violence that Kennedy had failed to stop had come back to him, this resulted in the Elijah Muhammad silencing him. Malcolm X left the Nation of Islam a short time later.

9. Sounds like Malcolm X would not give white people any credit, period
We are all evil.

No way would we vote for a black man to be President.

Oh, wait a minute.

16. I have to say the liberals in Congress are acting exactly as Malcom X is accusing them of acting
Edited on Sun Jan-03-10 01:04 AM by liberal_at_heart
They say one thing to get elected then make legislation that is exactly the opposite and all in the name of "compromise". I still admired Martin Luther King Jr. more than Malcom X though because he knew how to lead millions in a non-voilent, non-racist resistance.

19. I liked your post and the quotes
As JohnnyLib2 wrote, they are part of history.

Might want to go easy on the Malcolm X quotes about White liberals. Voting for a Black president has us feeling pretty progressive.

My wife is an Alaska Native, and back in her political days she said some things very similar about the White people she dealt with. She always said the bigots were the easy ones because their agendas were on the table.

I get shot down every time I express this opinion, but I believe that it was people like Malcolm X and groups like the Black Panthers in the background that made the non-violent civil rights movement so successful. Lurking behind all of the non-violent demonstrations, there were constant reminders of the alternative.
