Cool video. What would Earth look like if it had rings like Saturn?
Sorry if this has been seen before, but I just found it and thought it was pretty cool. Some of the pictures are beautiful.

Views from the earth if we had a ring system like Saturn;

6. Neat. If only the moon would explode. Eventually, a ring like that would form.
Of course not long after the explosion we would be dead, but the rings would be awesome!

9. It's interesting to speculate on the differences in human culture this would have caused.
What would the differences have been in religion and cosmology? Would science (at least astronomy) have advanced at a different rate? It seems like the ring light (reflected sunlight) would interfere with the visibility of the night sky in many parts of the world.

That could interfere with more than just astronomy. Would it have interfered with timekeeping (seasons, crop planting, etc.)? What about navigation?

10. Interesting points.
Also consider that the night sky would look considerably different to residents of Quito as opposed to New York, meaning the residents near the equator would likely see many more stars than those in the northern and southern latitudes.

You bring up some fascinating questions.

13. One problem: The explanations he gives may seem logical, but
Edited on Sun Jan-03-10 09:42 AM by ashling
nowhere does he say why the rings would sound like Ave Maria. :shrug:

:rofl:
