Just How Racist Is the Tea Party Movement?
Are the openly-racist elements within the Tea Party movement an aberration, or are they more firmly entrenched than tea partiers would care to admit?

OAKLAND, California, 22 Dec (IPS) - It began with Apr. 15 Tax Day protests as thousands rallied in a number of cities across the country.

It continued on into the summer with raucous town hall meetings and gun-toting anti-Barack Obama demonstrators, and appeared to reach its apex with a Sep. 12 march on Washington, which drew nearly 100,000 participants.

Now, however, some in the so-called Tea Party movement are turning their attention toward becoming a force during the 2010 congressional elections.

Several reports on the Sep. 12 event noted it was a nearly all-white crowd and some demonstrators carried an assortment of "homemade" anti-Obama posters, declaring that "The Anti-Christ Is Living in the White House", and calling the president an "Oppressive Bloodsucking Arrogant Muslim Alien".

4. Agreed, they are merely KKK without robes
Where were the "Patriots" and how many tea parties were held when the white guy was in the oval office wiping out a surplus and running up a record deficit.

The white trash party goers care about no one or nothing except themselves. And it must really suck to have an alcoholic, nobody prick who has never done anything for our country tell you what to do and how to think.

Please lurkers, google "teabagger." You are stupid motherfuckers to the core who don't know a fuck about American History if you call YOURSELVES Teapartiers.

5. They are some of the most racist americans...
....I would know because I have family who think exactly like them but don't go out and protest in public. They call black people degrading things like "negro" and other things I wont say at every family gathering. People like them should be ashamed of their intolerant behavior which all stems down to the fact that they cannot stand that we elected a smart liberal black president. I don't know about every tea-bagger but if we had a progressive white president, the ones I know wouldn't be so hateful.

10. Considering that most of them are disciples of Rush Limbaugh and those
who spew the same hate and lies that they do I would suggest that they are bigoted in many ways including race. This is how Rush hooks his listeners, with race baiting, misogynist baiting and fear of what might happen if the poor get equal access to things like good paying jobs, health care and decent schools and neighborhoods to live in. He appeals to their subconscious prejudices that are already there. So it's a small leap to becoming a tea bagger from there.

16. How racist? Well, their Coo-Coo White Queen Monica Crowley thinks they're the keenest thing since...
sliced white bread and if anybody knows white bread it's White Queen Monica Crowley; the great great white granddaughter John McLaughlin never had

They're the same Puritanical Zealots that burned witches and demonized as Satanic: the indigenous peoples that stepped out of the deep forests of this land cause they profoundly challenged the Puritan' and their bigoted misunderstanding of God simply by doing so. Nothing has ever changed about them since before they brought their crimes & thieveries - their injustices here. It can't. They can't. They won't let it. They are hardwired-dysfunctional. Toss in personally frustrated, ED addled Korean War vets that never understood tactical retreat or why any of that happened at all; but believe up till today that MacArthur was god walking on earth; toss in that and some Puritanical bullshit about teabags and Revolutionary American Thought and...you...got yourself a cutting edge political movement?

Like what rug said in another thread other topic still applies: what you do have is "an indictment"!

If Dems are going to just stand there while this tea party tripe is allowed to roll up & down every pike unchallenged, then they better spend their time thinking up their own excuses why they had it and then lost it all. The teabag moment-in-time is not a juggernaut and I do not care who says it is. Tea-baggers are creaking old cha-boogety cha-boogety: POW! tin Saxon' traveling southbound on northbound roads

19. They *claim* NOT to be
They also *claim* to be non-partisan too but I don't know of a lot of minorities and/or "true blue" Democrats attached to the movement, especially since we're only now seeing them now that we happen to have a Democratic WH and Congress. I'm sure that it's also no coincidence whatsoever that we're seeing a re-emergence of the "militia" movement. I don't recall seeing either groups as active during the Bush years as they were during the Clinton years. Coincidence? I think NOT! I think a lot of them are former Perot supporters and assorted disaffected wingnuts. I don't necessarily think them as an updated version of KKK but I believe that the movement may have SOME racist elements and/or "undertones".

24. When they were protesting here
we went to several of their rallies. A friend has a radio show and took her tape recorder to record interviews to use on the air. She gave me a CD full of them and it's in my car. I listen to it when I need a good laugh. There's one part where she interviewed a guy who was opposed to ANY socialism, including public safety. My friend asked him what he would do if his house caught on fire and he said "Oh my neighbors will call 911".

Now there's a guy who sticks up for his beliefs!

and known racist/white supremist organizations (KKK, Storm Front, Aryan Nations, etc.) have been actively recruiting at teabagger rallies. They've even developed protocols for how to go about approaching prospective recruits at those gatherings. For example, check this out (but keep a bucket handy, you'll need it):

I have the occasional misfortune of having to share breathing space with some teabaggers, and every single one of them is unquestionably racist.

In fact, neocons like to use the I'm rubber you're glue tactic, and call progressives racist because we do things like criticize Condi Rice.

According to them, liberals are the real racists.

37. Racism is not limited to teabaggers
Some of you here talk as if they own the whole concept. I would guess that half of Americans are racist. Since I'm not as young as I would like to be..lol...and have met many people all across this country, my estimate is probably close. What is disturbing is the fact that many democrats are now falling for another obvious P&R campaign designed to further our divide. If this country does not unite against corporatism, then we will all loose, just as the 15,000,000 who have lost jobs that will never return. It's going to get worse and arguing about who is right and who is left plays right into their game. I'm not playing, I'm just waiting for Americans to come together to resolve the war on the working class.
