Just Out from TSA
Josh Marshall | January 3, 2010, 3:54PM

The TSA just released the following statement on updated, permanent security measures, effective tomorrow ...

"Today, the Transportation Security Administration issued new security directives to all United States and international air carriers with inbound flights to the U.S. effective January 4, 2010.

The new directive includes long-term, sustainable security measures developed in consultation with law enforcement officials and our domestic and international partners.

Because effective aviation security must begin beyond our borders, and as a result of extraordinary cooperation from our global aviation partners, TSA is mandating that every individual flying into the U.S. from anywhere in the world traveling from or through nations that are state sponsors of terrorism or other countries of interest will be required to go through enhanced screening. The directive also increases the use of enhanced screening technologies and mandates threat-based and random screening for passengers on U.S. bound international flights."

1. According to our news here in the UK
the body scanners don't detect either chemicals or liquids.

Someone having a laugh ?

6. I wonder whether or not the scanners can detect substances inserted into the 'body cavities'...
Many a story reported on how drug mules use surgery and other, ummm, methods to conceal their contraband within the body.

Just asking...

20. It will keep Dick Cheney grounded, to be sure.
He has his head so far up his ass he thinks he is storing his brains in "an undisclosed location".

4. Seems like some real basic stuff was missed.....
The guy bought a one-way ticket with cash? The guy had NO LUGGAGE??? The guy is from YEMEN, and on a "terrorist watch list"????

Holy shit folks. Forget the body scanners. Just do your f*cking job!! That all seems pretty elementary to this Jose. I can't believe this one turd can turn the whole aviation industry into a paranoid clown act.

Body scanners WILL NOT stop this sort of attack. Drug dealers have been stuffing drugs up their hind ends, in their vaginas, swallowing...and more. If you think you can stop powder drugs from coming on board, you are as f*cking nuts as this clown the "underwear bomber".

Stop the "feel good shit" at the security screenings. Wake up and fly right!!

5. Well I hope they've cancelled all Heathrow after midnight GMT
BAA, which runs six UK airports, said it would now install the machines "as soon as is practical" at Heathrow.

Please note : "as soon as is practical"

11. I stopped flying years ago.
Unless I absolutely have to fly. I am a white former Army officer and I get patted down and wanded more than people on the terror watch list.

I am so sick of the useless security theater at the air port. I just stopped flying. If I need to go somewhere I drive or take a boat.

This guy flew with no passport, no visa, after his dad told the CIA that he had said goodbye to everyone he knew like he was a suicide bomber.

Really? People can't see that this was done on purpose? That this guy was let through security with a bomb?

People are so naive.

12. Where did you read no passport
or visa? No one flys to US without a passport, no one! Also note that he had a multi-entry visa valid for two years issued in 2008.

16. I won't fly, either, unless absolutely necessary.
Every two years I have to go to France to visit in-laws...this is the only time I will fly and I am not even sure about that yet.
