Only 25% of Americans Can Correctly Answer That Around 900 Troops Have Been Killed in Afghanistan
Source: Pew Research Center

Most Americans cannot correctly estimate the number of U.S. military personnel that have been killed in the war in Afghanistan. Only a quarter of the public is able to correctly answer that around 900 troops have been killed in that war. Most Americans overestimate the number of troop causalities in Afghanistan. Another 25% estimate the fatality count to be around 1,500, while 27% say it is around 2,500. By contrast, 42% of Americans are able to correctly estimate the number of troop deaths in the Iraq war at around 4,300. As in Afghanistan, the public is more likely to overestimate (30%) than underestimate (22%) the number of troop fatalities in Iraq. Notably, those who report they are following either war very closely in the news are no more likely than the public at large to correctly estimate the number of troop fatalities of each respective war.

6. Ermm.... Most people OVER estimate.
Wouldn't that be contrary to what a pro-war MSM would want and seek to drive?

9. No, not at all
Anesthetizing citizens to the significance of war deaths - to the point they simply pull what 'feels' to them a reasonable figure out of the air - would be the goal.

10. Not really.
According to my idiot freeper family members, the war in Iraq was absolutely justified because they defended themselves.
Yes, they think that because they shot back we were justified in invading in the first place.

3. I was disheartened to see that so many think it is higher,
yet support for it continues. It suggests we have many more deaths to go through before the American public has had enough.:(

8. I don't remember Brian Williams mentioning it.
Nor have many of the rest of the, uh, news community brought it up.

Gosh. Has it been 10 years, already?
