Less than three weeks after being sworn in Bush* sends 1.6 Trillion dollar tax cut package to congre
WASHINGTON, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- President George W. Bush Thursday sent Congress his $1.6 trillion tax-relief package and called on legislators to act swiftly to relieve Americans of their tax burden in order to restore consumer confidence and spur economic growth.

Remember just one month before this the Fed raised rates saying the economy was "over heated" and the previous Federal Budget had been in Surplus. Thus began the Record Deficit Spending that lasted the entire Bush*/Cheney/Republican era.

1. What was the last fiscally responsible Republican administration?
I think not in my lifetime.

11. Right, Tricky Dick wasn't perfect by a long shot but he does deserve credit.
The moral of the story here is, we have Saint Ronnie of Reagan and his two disciples to thank for the fiscal irresponsibility that has come to characterize the GOP of the past 30 years.

Democratic Superiority, by the Numbers

12. Yes. I think Reagan's cronies figured out how to plumb our treasury
while he was president and haven't stopped since.

5. They needed one Senator to get to fifty, guess who that Senator was?
Senator Ben Nelson sided with Republicans and allowed the Bill to be passed with Dick Cheney casting the tie breaking vote.

8. you seem to be misremembering
http://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/history/one_item_and_teasers/partydiv.htm

The Senate was split 50-50 in 2001. The initial tax cuts in 2001 did not pass 51-50, but they did in 2003 even though the Senate was split 51-48-1. In 2001, thanks to amendments by Herb Kohl somthing like 10-25 Senate Democrats voted for those tax cuts, including Jean Carnahan of Missouri. She still lost in 2002 to Jim no-Talent in spite of campaigning on "she voted for the Bush tax cuts".

15. 12 Democratic Senators voted yea with 2 chickenshits voting present and 5 not voting.
2 Republican Senators voted nay and one independent voted yea. The measure passed with 58 votes. 60 votes were not required because Republicans used the reconciliation process to circumvent a filibuster.

The bill passed in the House by a vote of 240 to 154. 28 Democrats voted yea. Not a single Republican voted nay.
