Michele Bachmann, who never misses an opportunity to mug for a camera
Says she won't fill out her Census form with any identifying information.

Because she's concerned about her privacy.

What a flipping maroon. :wow:

2. Yesterday, I heard that it's only going to be 10 questions - a real shorty
I think it's kind of too bad. I like looking at the old census data, it's fascinating. Decades from now, info about us will be mighty thin to future generations.

And yeah, Bachmann is a maroon. The data is made public 72 years after the census is taken.

3. The truly ironic part of this is:
1) she is encouraging her supporters to follow her lead.

2) Minnesota may lose a House seat after the next Census and

3) Odds are, because it borders more of the other districts than any other, the district we lose will probably be Bachmann's.

4) Bachmann lives in Stillwater (not the most conservative part of her district) - and chances are the district that now includes the city of St. Paul and is heavily DFL will be expanded to include Stillwater.

16. So the idjits who voted for her will be swallowed up into a more liberal district?
How can I encourage her lunacy in this case?

21. In the long run, it does not benefit a state to lose a Congressional District
no matter who holds the seat. So, even though I'd like to encourage Bachmann's supporters to avoid the census, I just can't. Though, if her seat goes away, I'll at least feel that some good came out of the loss.

Isn't there a fine for not participating in the census? If there is, it will be even more amusing if her supporters get slapped with it after they follow here advice.

5. She acts like the cenus was a plot created in the last 50 yearas
The creation and implementation of a census was orginally written in the Constitution. (Saw that on Rachal Maddow's show)

6. Let's hope her followers follow suit and then according to the census, her
district has lost population and might lose federal dollars, or be gerrymandered out of existence.

10. Yep. That's why Kent on Rachel's show reported she's been silent about it lately.
Someone must have clued her in to that.

8. No more roads, clean water, fire, police or emergency services for her.
The Census helps divvy up these basic needs for population centers.

11. Wait wait wait she changed her mind
Some body must have told her that if the people in her district didn't fill out the form she wouldn't have a district to get elected to. So why aren't her opponents giving the MSM the news that she is flip flopping all over the place. That when it comes to getting elected, she will tell her voters to fill out the forms and to heck with privacy.

13. Bachmann = loon ... but ...
Okay, folks, please don't jump down my throat on this one. I'm not the brightest star in the sky, but I'm trying desperately to ensure that I think for myself and don't become a lemming.

I think Bachmann's a true fruitcake, and scary, to boot.

But I was watching Maddow on MSNBC tonight, and Kent Jones was doing a bit on how loony she (Bachmann) is about this census stuff.

What I heard was that Bachmann is saying that she will fill out ONLY the count portion of the census.

Followed by Kent Jones saying, well, isn't that nutty? Because the Constitution *demands* a count.

So wasn't he just confirming her opinion? That all we're REQUIRED to do is give a count? But he harped on it as if to say she was WRONG. But offered no proof that she IS wrong.

This is my first post on DU. I'm worried that a loved one, who rails against the Fox news groupies who memorize talking points and don't think about what they're being fed is becoming an MSNBC groupie who memorizes OUR talking points and doesn't think what he's being fed.

I tried to tell my loved one to listen to what Jones was doing - reiterating exactly what Bachmann was saying, while trying to SOUND like he was putting her down - and he reacted strongly, as though I was being blasphemous by doubting the "great and powerful" MSNBC.

It scared me.

Did I misunderstand or misinterpret Jones, or is "our media" committing the same sins that Fox has long committed? And, how can I convince my loved one that he needs to put down the remote and switch to .. I dunno .. PBS? for his news?

Actually -- I know he likes MSNBC because, like many humans, he *likes* to hear his opinion voiced by others. I get that. It's kind of natural, I think. But I think he's forgetting that those are opinions, not facts, and I worry that he's losing sight of the difference. I think we may need a 12-step group. Anyone got one?

Thanks for letting me vent.

18. I've looked at a lot of census record doing genealogical research
and the censuses up thru 1840 were essentially just a count -- the head of the household and how many other bodies lived there. In 1850 they started listing the names, ages, occupations, and relation to the head of the household, and also place of birth. It was great. I imagine genealogists everywhere cringe when they hear Bachman blather.

And for the record, I don't know any lefties who worship MSNBC the way righties seem to worship Faux News. If you stick around long enough, you'll see every pundit on there skewered for some tomfoolery.

20. It's theatre. As an elected official, it's not as if her info isn't already on file somewhere
and those sources can be used for census purposes if she doesn't fill out the actual census form.

I worked the 1990 census and if you didn't fill out the forms there were other means at our disposal for getting the information. And that was in 1990...think about all the sources they'll have now.

I filled out many forms myself - legally - by using other sources when people refused to cooperate with the census.

MB is full of shit because she already knows all of this and is just performing for her audience.

Anyone thinking they've won a small victory by not filling out their census has another think coming.
