Brit Hume's comment regarding Tiger, very enlightening
The main point he made was Tiger could obtain redemption by converting to Christianity.

It is obvious that it is how he justifies spewing the lies, he just asks for forgiveness and all is O.K.

1. Religion - the license to act immorally... as all will be forgiven.

4. You are correct.
I have cast too wide a net. In my myopia, I forget sometimes that there really is only 1 religion. :dunce:

7. because he sees it as a get out of jail pass. he isn't a christian.
christianity is actually demanding. You have to CARE about others. What he advocates is the heresy that has grown over the top of the messianic movement of Jesus and John the Baptist. Paul sold them out when he flipped everything they believed and taught 180 degrees including the most important aspect of it: A life without WORKS is nothing. Works justify faith. -Jesus. Faith alone is enough. -Paul.

8. You're misconstruing some stuff here.
Lutherans, for example, believe that one is saved by faith and grace alone, and not by good works, because they could never be enough. But Lutherans do NOT believe that gives one license to sin as one pleases, because one will be forgiven anything. They believe that a person who has experienced the gift of redemption by grace should WANT to do good--not because it will get him to heaven but because it's the right thing to do.

The Christians who use salvation-by-faith-alone as a "get out of jail free card" to sin like crazy are not taking their faith seriously at all.

9. you are talking about people who care about their religion regardless
of the focus of their efforts. Britt Hume is talking about another debased idea that feeds his self belief that if he believes enough that it will be enough to keep him from hell.

11. With the Catholics "works" means charity
Edited on Wed Jan-06-10 04:45 AM by liberal_at_heart
I was a Catholic for a while. For the Catholics works means charity. I don't see teaching a need for charity to be a bad thing. I actually think that teaching people that they have to be accountable for how they treat each other should go along with faith. If you believe that you can treat people however you want and be saved by faith alone that doesn't give you much motivation to treat people well.

10. he certainly seems to think that he is...
and seeing as there is no god, no heaven, and no hell- whatever they consider themselves to be is all that really matters, anyway- not what other people think of them.
