1. Their stories are based on actual news and not their personal, sanctimonious spiritual advice to the subjects of their stories. Neither of them push religion on their guests or the viewers. I have no idea what if any religion Keith or Rachel are.
2. Both are far more professional than anyone on Fox. They rely on documented evidence. Rachel in particular is probably the best news person on the air.
3. One may turn on the TV or radio without being inundated by liberal opinion.
4. Rachel, Keith, Ed Stephanie Miller, Air America exist as an alternative to Fox, Limbaugh and the rest of those assholes. If news simply told the truth regardless of ideology, we would not need them.
Hume's remark--and let's face it, it's really Murdock's remark--is simply part of Murdock's far right propaganda machine. Their job is to foll people who are too stupid to recognize bullshit and to intimidate everyone else. Fox's full time job is to promote anti-secular, anti-union, anti-progressive ideas and to facilitate the preachers and their corporate overlords in making us peons. You may bet dollars to donuts that Hume's remark was scripted by the central office.
You're remark is analogous to a soldier claiming "So what if our enemy shoots us! We shoot them too!" This is a battle of ideas and I hope to win it. That means making efforts to discredit their "soldiers." So even if you are right--hurray for Keith and Rachel!

You can't get away from these motherfucking babtists down here any way you turn. Good thing Mr. Hume didn't say Tiger shoulda turned to Allah or the Flying Spaghetti Monster or the IPU.
A barely more acceptable answer would have been to suggest he get some religion, but then again, it's all unsolicited advice given by a blowhard idiot afraid of his own mortality.

And it was inaccurate. There is no evidence that Christians are any more healthy psychologically, moral or ethical than Buddists. It is also fundamentally dishonest. Whether or not Christianity has a philosophy of forgiveness has no bearing on the accuracy of its claims. One cannot simply decide to accept Christianity's claims as fact simply because one wants to take advantage of one of its dogmas.

Hume claimed that Woods needed Christianity for Woods' own peace of mind. That claim has no basis in fact. And being inaccurate, Hume was wrong to claim otherwise. And by "wrong" I mean like saying that 2+2=5. It's not a question of morality, but fact.

38. Sorry, but when it comes to these kinds of issues, there is no "right" or "wrong",... |
|
... and we aren't dealing with "facts."
It's very possible that Woods could find peace of mind through Christian pursuits. It's equally possible that he'd be just another hypocritical Bible thumper.
I'll never understand why people who have no faith or have had a bad experience with people of faith automatically assume that faith is always bad and always the refuge of ignorant fools.

44. 1st, if it can be verified or dismissed with evidence, then it is a question of fact. |
|
Sure it's possible. It's also possible he would find the same peace of mind through Buddhist pursuits or by building model airplanes. The point is saying that X leads to specific psychological results is a measurable, testable hypothesis. It may not be comfortable to conclude that a religious precept is wrong, but that has no bearing on the veracity of the conclusion. And a quick reminder: no evidence does not mean may be true or may not be true. A lack of evidence gets you to zero.
And again, he can't just throw a switch in his mind and suddenly be a Christian. He either accepts, as a point of fact, that Jesus Christ is the son of God and the savior of humanity or he does not. If not, he cannot make himself believe something that knows probably isn't true. On the other hand, if he goes believe that premise and thinks it is factually true, then he is a Christian already. JC either has the power to send us to heaven or he does not. One of those propositions must be wrong.

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. Mk. 4.24 3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. 6 ¶ Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. I love shoving bible quotes down the throats of rightous assholes.
If only they would learn to practice what they preach.

17. If this were a random poll, I'd be concerned that so many responders think what Hume said is okay. |
|
But there are probably five or six threads--all on fire--over at the freepturd republic, exhorting the mouth breathers to vote, ditch their cookies, and vote again, as many times as it takes to skew the results. It's fun to vote in these little online polls but they are really pretty meaningless, don't you think? Of course, the problem is that FuckSnooze probably reports the results of intentionally corrupted online polls as solid evidence of support for their hateful world view.

|
On last night's O'Reilly Factor, O'Reilly put the question about proselytizing to Hume, and Brit explained himself this way:
"Tiger Woods is somebody I've always rooted for. ... Now we know that the content of his character was not what we thought it was. He is paying a frightful price for these revelations. My sense is that he has basically lost his family. ... My sense about Tiger is that he needs something that Christianity, especially, provides and gives and offers. And that is redemption and foregiveness."
So the loofa guy agrees.
