A Perfect Example Of Not Knowing When To STFU

Yet Another Reason to Boycott Whole Foods
by Craig Brown
A Boycott Whole Foods movement was launched after John Mackey, CEO and co-founder of Whole Foods wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal on August 12, 2009 quoting Margaret Thatcher and suggesting that healthcare is a commodity that only the rich, like him, deserve.

Now, Mackey has once again revealed his rightwing politics. In a just published profile in The New Yorker, Mackey takes on global warming:

“One of the books on the list was “Heaven and Earth: Global Warming—the Missing Science,” a skeptical take on climate change. Mackey told me that he agrees with the book’s assertion that, as he put it, “no scientific consensus exists” regarding the causes of climate change; he added, with a candor you could call bold or reckless, that it would be a pity to allow “hysteria about global warming” to cause us “to raise taxes and increase regulation, and in turn lower our standard of living and lead to an increase in poverty.” One would imagine that, on this score, many of his customers, to say nothing of most climate scientists, might disagree. He also said, “Historically, prosperity tends to correlate to warmer temperatures.”

1. His mouth is exactly why we stopped shopping at WF.
And we were there at least twice a week. Stupid, stupid move on his part.

In our town, there are two WF. One is older, but one is only a couple of years old. I live in a very liberal town and news of this idiot's opinions spread like wildfire. The parking lots to both WF locations are virtually empty. If he keeps shooting off his mouth, I wouldn't be surprised to see the WF in my town pack up and leave.

2. Stock is falling, let's hope they replace this buffoon soon!
-snip

But in August, CtW raised the stakes by calling for the CEO's removal. The activist group said an editorial by Mackey opposing President Obama's health care plan damaged the company's reputation, especially among its left-leaning customers.

The group said Mackey "attempted to capitalize on the brand reputation of Whole Foods to champion his personal political views but has instead deeply offended a key segment of Whole Foods consumer base."

CtW said Mackey has become a "liability" because of his "indiscretion."

The shareholder activist has wanted Mackey to relinquish his chairman title because it believes an independent chairman could improve the company's stock price performance. CtW noted the stock had fallen 30 percent over the past five years ending Sept. 30, 2008 compared with a 14 percent gain in the S&P 500 Index.

3. Why do these idiots insist on giving
moronic opinions in areas where they obviously have no expertise or business interest? Exactly what can it do to help his, and presumably his companies position to proclaim a stand on a topic like global warming? Does this asshole not care that he's openly calling at least more than half of his most loyal customers stupid?

If I was a shareholder of Whole Foods I'd be mighty pissed off no matter what my politics are.

My criticism would be equally valid if this limp dicked shithead came out calling for Glenn Beck to be hung by his scrotum in a town square. I'd agree with him but shit, it might cost me some customers that it didn't need too.

4. It hasn't hurt our local WF.
Busy as usual. I hope this gets them to drop their prices though. :)

6. One of the first things a guy like this should learn is
Know who your customer base is, and try not to piss them off. Jeez, what a moron.
