OH SNAP! Pelosi On Obama: 'There Were A Number Of Things He Was For On The Campaign Trail'
Brian Beutler | January 5, 2010, 3:48PM

Speaker Nancy Pelosi had little to say this afternoon at a press conference following a meeting between House leaders and health care principals. She and other members acknowledged that a number of differences must be resolved between House and Senate bills before a final reform package can be signed in to law--and all are aware that too much tinkering could upset a delicate balance in the Senate, where legislation often must meet a supermajority threshold.

But Pelosi did toss a jab President Obama's way.

Referring to one of Obama's campaign pledges, a reporter asked Pelosi whether C-SPAN cameras would be allowed to film the House-Senate negotiations.

"There are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail," said a bemused Pelosi.

2. I don't see it as a jab...I see it as
The media blowing things out of proportion like they always do. They're just following protocol. He's been in office for a year, those "things he was for" haven't all been ruled out yet.

3. How exactly is Obama supposed to force Congress to open its doors?
That being said, he hasn't done much better for his Executive Branch transparency.

9. Presumably he could just ask from the bully pulpit
It would be awkward (though not impossible) for them to refuse. It would certainly make it more difficult than just leaving it implied and unspoken.

52. I preferred Obama too...
...because of the things he said he would do, and the things he promised that were outlined in his
Blue Print For America.

All of our legs were tingling.

So the people who have been let down by Obama are to blame for his failure to live up to--not just his promises--but
his stated philosophies and plans for this nation?

13. If it's true...
then it's true.

People who are holding the President accountable are doing him a favor.

Those who allow him to compromise, no matter how supportive they believe they are being, are hurting the President.

Some dissent in the ranks may produce an acceptable product, or prevent an unacceptable product from being forced on the people.

Political speech in the U.S. is like a foreign language. It takes immersion.

But even the most politically naïve must get Nancy's drift. It seems obvious to me.

She punked him. Slightly.

It was the Senate that did the deed.

33. AND...if anyone remembers Pelosi's HOUSE voted down the Bank Bailout...it was Senate
that came back and crammed it down Houses Throat by buying off the Blue Dogs with Perks.

I've never been fond of Pelosi...but the House has done FAR BETTER than our corrupt bought and paid for Senate in trying to hold the line against Bush and Obama's crowd (Rahm) than the Senate. It's possible that Nancy and the House knew what the Senate would do so they could pass more liberal legislation knowing the Senate would put perks in to buy off the House Blue Dogs when the vote came back...and that's probably very likely. Still, Nancy does appear to have gotten her folks who "appear" more Democratic than Harry Reid has done with his merry bunch of Lobbyist owned Toadies. Just Saying....

43. This is the most pathetic top of the front page post I have ever seen on DU

We are so desperate for SOMEONE to stand up. So desperate for someone to represent us, it is front page top news when Pelosi makes a underhanded jab at Obama that says NOTHING about challenging bad policy.

I am sorry, but that is so sad.

We need to get VERY active right NOW.

And, Oh Snap?
