There are many species of whale, with varying levels of intelligence. Some species have brain development and demonstrated cognitive and memory abilities that rival our own. Others are no more intelligent than cows.

We are generally talking about large animals with low birth rates. It's unlikely such animals provide a good source of anything because it's really hard to have a sustainable harvest limit.

7. I was talking to my brother who lives in Japan. He said that the government

whaling offices in Japan are chalked full of people who would have no purpose or job if Japan stopped whaling. It is an inertia thing. Some traditions are taboo to be changed in Japan. Same as corn subsidies in the USA. That does a lot of damage to actual people around the world but the USA doesn't even think about lifting that because there are so many vested interests. In fact it is taboo to talk about that in congress.

Don't know how the kids in Japan feel about whaling. Maybe when the next generation comes of age they will stop whaling. I hope it isn't too late.
