Politics Sucks these days |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-06-10 12:22 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
The predominant voices:
Fascists seeking the total failure of the USA
Apologists who would applaud if the president crapped his pants on TV
Leftists whose powerlessness becomes an invitation to absolutism (If nobody will listen you have to say crazier and crazier stuff to get noticed.)
The few sensible voices often take the form of impotent self-expression to rationalize the inevitable subsequent "responsible" co-option. ("Why I support this indefensible nightmare...")
It sucks to follow politics right now.

2. I completely understand why politics suck for people like you. |
|
Maybe you should run for office instead of pouting so much?

"after all, it's not easy, banging your head against some mad bugger's wall" "People like you" I happen to like K&H (and by extension, "people like K&H"), although I disagreed with him (again). http://journals.democraticunderground.com/hfojvt/66

14. Good job proving his point |
|
I guess it's far easier to sit on one's ass, accept everything as true and good, and bitch at people on the internet, which seems to be about all you're good at.

5. It has been like watching our country spiral out of control |

since runnyraygun (may he rest in hell).
The fascist corporates want democracy to fail to bring on full and total nazi kkkontrol. And that has been in motion since the 30s, incremental(emphasis on mental) take over of our government calling it free enterprise and other euphemisms.

8. If you want to see when politics really "sucked" you should have been around |

for the "Reagan Revolution" or when Newt Gingrich had his "Contract with America".

10. I don't think that's fair - especially on DU |
|
starting at the end.
It's not hard for leftists to get noticed on DU. Secondly, are leftists saying 'crazier and crazier stuff'? That's certainly what the adults (centrists) would say :P
Secondly, I don't think it's fair to say that some here would applaud if "the President crapped his pants on TV" just because some here don't immediately and reflexively jump on the latest bandwagon of "Obama is such a failure/loser/disappointment/cloneofBush"
Finally the business of 'fascists seeking total failure of the USA' sounds too much to me like what people on the right in 2002 said about war protesters "hippies and socialists seeking total failure of the USA". We need to respect the right of an opposition to be an opposition just like we demanded that respect when we were the opposition.
Finally, I am not sure when you say 'following politics' if you are talking about things like Haqrdlyball and Fake the Nation and other TV (un)fare. I follow politics on DU, and while we seem to be divided into warring camps flinging poo at each other, that's sorta normal for DU, except that in the pasts battles would flare up (Leopold, Tookie, Israel, food stamps, etc., etc.) and then die down until the next media-generated outrage du jour and while we still have some of that, the food stamps scirmish being a fairly recent example, we seem to be stuck in permanent primary mode.

always been in my lifetime.
Thom Hartmann just played a tape of J. Carter telling us about his new directives to cap the import of oil and creating the world's first solar bank. Of course Raygun undid his predecessor's administration in his first 100 days, a feat that we today are assured is "impossible". *shakes head*

13. Politics has always sucked! |
|
What I want is sensible governance. If the rule of law applied to all equally, I believe the crunch for jobs might be less painful, because the banksters and other pilfering profiteers would be busy serving sentences in prison for racketeering and collusion. This economic debacle has been the biggest land and money grab since I don't know when, but to stop at it sucks doesn't begin to cover it.
Politicians aren't afraid to show us anymore how much they suck.
