This is probably petty
But when I was putting money into the 2008 election cycle I did it in part as an investment.

Keep in mind it has only been a year, but when I put about $800~ into the dems in 2008 election cycle I did it knowing I was doing it not only for the country, but as an investment since dems tend to support policies to benefit the middle class. So I figured I'd get my money back.

Anyway, I did lose my job in 2009 (which would've happened anyway) but in between the payroll tax cut in the stimulus and the extra $25/wk in unemployment benefits, I think I have already seen an extra $500 or so in lower payroll taxes and higher aid in 2009 alone.

So my money was well spent. Yay me.

They aren't perfect as a party. But I've almost recouped my investment in 1 year.

If/when I get a full time job again, I'd gladly pay higher taxes if it'd get the country back on track though.

2. Agreed but
we shouldn't have to pay higher taxes if they would get their _____ together and stop doing stupid things with our money and tax those who should be taxed.

3. Nothing petty about how you have been affected by the past
and present policies. I am glad that you are feeling good about 2009 and now the new year. I think we are far better off than we would have been under anyone else who we had to choose from. I love your attitude of looking at things as half full rather than half empty. Bravo. Also, keep telling yourself "When" you find a job, rather than throwing the "if" in there. Positive thinking and all that. Best wishes.

4. Oh good god, it's not an INVESTMENT.
And your "INVESTMENT" just put a few billion dollars in war contracts . Some people'll do anything to feel like they're making a buck.

7. I'm a 'she' now?
Sweet.

Either way, the fact that insurance and pharma companies are getting hundreds of billions in corporate welfare over the next decade is much easier to bear with this $500 in my pocket.

6. Oh good God. Do you realize that you can
invest in things that are not as tangible as money and not expect a return of actual cash? Like perhaps a country and its people?
