Poll question: Should DU have a new Big Forum for Investigative Journalism?
Edited on Thu Jan-07-10 03:46 PM by nyc 4 Biden
IMO, the best source for in-depth, informative and revealing news is the weekly/monthly periodicals such as http://www.thenation.com/">The Nation, http://motherjones.com/">Mother Jones, http://www.csmonitor.com/">The Christian Science Monitor, http://www.progressive.org/">The Progressive, http://www.harpers.org/">Harper's, http://www.rollingstone.com/">Rolling Stone, etc.

I think DU as a community would be well served to have a distinct forum to post and discuss the stories generated by the above mentioned sources.

As it stands now most of these articles would not qualify for LBN because they would be more than http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x87249">12 hours old. And posting in GD or GD:P mixes them with our own commentary OPs.

Also, I think there would be enough material to fill a new forum since there are quite a few of these trusted periodical's out there and they turn over weekly.

So what think you DU...

Would a new forum dedicated to Investigative Journalism benefit DU?

(ETA: Had to change it to say no to emoticons because of the :P)

2. Do we really need another basement forum?
We know how those work.... a call goes out to god knows where, and before you know it, the shills are bussed in to take over (see the 9/11 forum, the gungeon, or I/P, for examples)

A better solution would be to post these things in GD and drown out the recent bleedover from the Message Discipline LLC crowd.

3. On the surface it is an excellent idea.

But ... having observed the way things go astray here at DU for several years ... it would become a repository of rumors and innuendo. If the format could be strictly held to reliably documented sources as you suggest it could work in theory.

4. Um, isn't that what the "Editorials and other articles" forum is for?

5. Not sure.
I never really spent much time in there. I'll have to check it out.

6. Yes, I would say it is
and it's relatively undervisited, judging by the smaller number of views and recommendations that good articles attract there compared with in GD. But visibility in GD is hampered by competing with 10 versions of "my take on today's media topic of choice".
