Once again, I feel compelled to say how great DU is.. |
|
In addition to the fact that I learn something new every time I sign on, I also learn it before everyone else I know...and apparently before most of the media!!!
Invariably when I hear an announcement on the radio or even TV, about some late breaking item, or some new aspect of some newsworthy event, I perk up my ears. As usual...I read about this on DU yesterday, or the day before...or even last week. The news is rarely news to me these days...
Thank you to DU, and everyone who makes it what it is.

3. Compelled? Who forced you, in that case? |

I do agree, tho. I always learn something. However, on a few rare occasions, certain things I learn, or a few images I see, I could really do without. Frankly, if I see another photo of Beck or Bachmann, I might lose another keyboard due to uncontrollable vomitus.

One thing I really appreciate about DU is I don't always agree with everyone who posts here but I have had no problem finding DUers who I am on the same page with.
Lately I have come to really appreciate the other teachers here. These are tough times for us educators. And we have a wonderful caring community of educators here. Smart too!! LOL
Great thread! Thanks for this:)

9. the internet as a whole gets stuff first. |
|
Next is radio, then tv, then the dead tree newspaper, usually a day late. We still read the newspaper, but mainly for the recipes, local events, and articles about health or travel or whatever.

16. I look here first to find news stories covered from all angles. |
|
I think the site owners and operators do a nice job of allowing free wheeling discussions.
I am completely lacking in judicial temperment. I'd be terrible at that. When you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail. But I do appreciate more tranquil types applying flexible rules with some hard edges.

I read a lot of news articles here that I won't see on my local news or it'll be buried deep in the paper. I don't watch cable news. I appreciate being able to read different people's opinions. That's why I come to DU.

you get what you want to get out of it. I think DU is still a great place to learn and share information, make friends, laugh, cry, joke, tease, yell, scream, fight, vent. Good job, DU! :)

At the depth and breadth of various DUer's knowledge on certain subjects.
Here we have doctors, lawyers, journalists, scientists, financial professionals, engineers, and religious leaders, to name but a few professions who frequent our board.
Not to mention the views of "ordinary" (what a misnomer) workers, union activists and "underprivileged" members of society, most of whom would never have a voice anywhere else and represent the MAJORITY of working Americans.
And here's to those who struggle for personal freedom. LGBT groups, racial minorities, political victims such as refugees, religious minorities and conscientious objectors.
It's an awesome resource as well as a continual source of valuable human opinion.
Here's to DU members! :toast: :hi:
