UPDATED: 5 p.m. identifying a second victim who was killed by the gunman

ST. LOUIS -- A factory employee went to the workplace this morning armed with three weapons and shot eight co-workers, killing three of them, before shooting himself inside the building, Police Chief Dan Isom said.

The rampage took place at ABB Inc., a manufacturer of electric transformers near the old General Motors plant complex in north St. Louis. Isom declined to name the gunman during a press conference this afternoon, but other police officials had identified him as Timothy Hendron, 51, of Webster Groves, an employee at the ABB plant.

"We are very confident that this is the shooter," said Isom, without confirming his name.

Isom said officers found two deceased victims in the parking lot outside the plant and two inside, including the shooter. Isom said officers recovered the shooter’s weapons: an assault rifle, a shotgun and a pistol. He said officers continued checking the 200,000-square-foot factory building this afternoon for evidence.

Isom declined to discuss a motive. ..........(more)
