This War on Terror is as Phony as the War on Drugs. There's a Better Way.
11 hijackers with box cutters, one pathetic soul we call the 'shoe bomber' and some asshole punk with a liquid firecracker in his ass has reduced this entire nation to a virtual police state and has our government sidetracked with fear-mongering all for the war-profiteers. It's phony.

Tell me how $2 Trillion friggin' dollars pissed away since 2001 in two overt wars and several covert wars around the globe was a better investment than simply IMPROVING AIRPORT SECURITY. Seriously, the three "terror" incidents described above all involved airplanes and yet, these three incidents were the rationale for the Patriot Act, the Homeland Defense Department, the War in Iraq which has cost nearly 1 million lives, the War in Afghanistan, the secret war in Pakistan and Yemen.

I mean we have gone from being idiots to now just being crazy.

Seriously, ask yourselves: what have we been "attacked" with? Not with nuclear weapons. Not with chemical weapons. Not with biological weapons (except for the homegrown Anthrax that came from Fort Meade, which is the home of the National Security Agency and which was mailed just in time to insure the Patriot Act would sail through Congress). And there's no sign of an invasion across our borders either.

Nope. Just box cutters, a crappy shoe bomb and a pathetic whimper of a liquid firecracker. And we've given up civil liberties for this? We have hundreds of thousands of troops for this? We've bankrupted the nation through borrowing for this? We are inflaming people who don't like us already into hating us by occupying their lands for this?

Hello! Just improve the friggin' airport security and the problem is solved.

Of course, that won't happen though. That's too simple. And anyway, "national security" is Big Business now.

Better airport security? No 9/11. No shoe bomber. No crotch fires.

1. Bin Laden said he was going to bankrupt the US
by these terror threats. Seems to be working.

6. Thank you, catnhatnh! It was indeed 19.
Thanks for your correction. But I'll let my error remain. I'm only human. Now, if I can just get unstuck from all my duct tape, I will make myself a nice Martini. :)

10. Dude
I regard most your stuff as gospel. Finding a flaw just means you're human too. Which is nice. But this is for fun and even when it was for money correction of an error is okay.

8. The Navy owns that one, FreakinDJ
The Cole was attacked in the Port of Aden, which we knew to be hot. If the commanding officer of the Cole would have put two seamen and a loaded M-60 machinegun in a rowboat and stuck 'em 100 meters from the Cole, that incident could have been avoided.

I think the days of "Shoot First - Ask Questions later in the Rice Patties of Vietnam are Long Gone"

5. How about we get high speed rail for domestic travel?
Then we can concentrate on international security.

admit defeat in that one?
