"Torture Memo" Author John Yoo to Appear on the Daily Show January 11

"John Yoo has received much press recently after releasing his new book, Crisis and Command. On Monday, January 11, Yoo will appear on the Daily Show to promote the book, purportedly a history of seizures of power by American presidents dating back to George Washington. As we reported yesterday, the Department of Justice’s internal ethics report on the Office of Legal Counsel lawyers, including John Yoo, who authored the “torture memos,” has still not been released.

Given the history of appearances by former DOJ officials on the show, we trust that Jon Stewart will not shy away from confronting Yoo over his authorship of the torture memos. We hope he will also focus on the need for accountability."

15. Some questions Stewart could ask

1)Why did you think torture was an effective interrogation method? What expertise did you rely on for this determination?

2)Did you ever talk to any FBI officials and find out why they opposed torture? Do you think they lacked patriotism and wanted the country to be attacked again?

3)We have heard a lot about how unfair it is to investigate dedicated CIA personnel who were trying to keep us safe. Why didn't you look out for them in the first place? You had an obligation to give sound legal advice so down the line CIA personnel would not be subject to criminal prosecution.

4)Torture: a) is illegal b) is an ineffective interrogation method c) helped terrorist recruiting d) increased attacks on soldiers e) disgraced the country. So why on earth are you playing the patriot card to defend your conduct? Where is the patriotism?
