Equal Time with Bob Boudelang
DU used to have these kind-of regular features. I think Bob Boudelang was the first thing I stumbled on, the thing that led me to DU. I actually spent a while just coming here for the features before using the forums.

2. He was something else!
I too, miss the old DU. It was certainly a friendlier place.

5. Actually, I think he WAS...
"Equal Time with Bob Boudelang" was one of the most popular DU features ever. It was written by a DUer using the handle MrBenchley, and everyone thought he did a really good imitation of a freeper.

You no longer see "Equal Time with Bob Boudelang" because MrBenchley really was a freeper.

9. Just WHOhad determined him to be a "Freeper"??
About 4 years back, I had asked the same question here on DU. Although I spend MUCHO time on DU and on a daily basis, I recalled seeing absolutely nothing about it --- other than he had suddenly disappeared from sight. I got a few content-free responses along the lines of yours.

I also got a PM: "I missed this flameout and his banning too. I was a big fan of the Boudelang article (brought me to DU) and Mr.Benchley was a great resource on gun issues (he was anti-gun) in that he had great links to that side of the argument." Was he "gunned down" in a drive by shooting? LONG LIVE THE SECOND AMENDMENT!!

If it isn't "Politically Incorrect" here, how about a DU Poll on reinstating Bob Boudelang? Perhaps INVITING him back might be better.

10. I just googled him and came up with this:
The amazing thing about Bob is every time I think I've made him too implausible, I come across a real right wing asshole even stupider and uglier. This morning the Delphi board has a guy ranting that everyone who mentions there were no WMDs in Iraq ought to be herded together and have the atomic bomb dropped on them...evidently to demonstrate that right wingers aren't dangerous violent freedom-hating loonies.

Doesn't sound like a freeper to me.

I've also come across his VERY strong anti-gun writings.

Again, doesn't sound like a freeper to me. Most of DU's stealthy Double-Knot Spies like to hang out in the gun forum.

14. He thought Lieberman was the best thig since sliced bread and the Lamont campaign was...
...a ploy from the evil "far left". His obnoxiousness on that subject got him TSd.

Whether or not that translates as "freeper" is left as an exercise for the reader.

16. That is also disingenuous.
His point was that the general election polling showed an easy win for Lieberman were he the Democratic nominee.and a struggle for Lamont, and that it would eat up a lot of campaign resources to hold on to that seat that could be used in another close race to gain a seat. I agreed with this; at the time, Lieberman's record diverged from the rest of the party on little other than Iraq. And I don't recall him ever endorsing Lieberman in the general; you're free to at least document this accusation if you're going to make it of someone who cannot defend himself.

18. For personal attacks and angry posts over that issue as far as I know.

I saw some of his final posts and none of them were advocating voting for Lieberman in the general.

4. I remember that...
I was a lurker back then but it's also what led me to DU. My favourite line is still "Why do the troops not support the troops?"

8. Wasn't there a recurring cartoon, "Fat Tony" Scalia, with Scalia as a Tony Soprano type character?
I think it was here.Haven't seen it in ages.It was a real hoot;I'd be nice to see some of them brought out of the archives.

And some more Hate Mail would be greatly appreciated.

12. Thats what got my attention about this place too
Thanks for the link I saved it for later re-reading as I've read most if not all of Bob Boudelang. If I remember correctly it was a Mr. Benchley who wrote those and he's since been ts'ed

I thought that if this place features someone like the writer of BB it has to be the place for me.
