I just got a call from the DCCC, and I told them to go pound sand |
|
In 2008, they didn't give ONE PENNY to the democrat running in California's second district, and he was outspent 20 to 1 by the dude who called a "proud right-wing terrorist" a "great American."
Don't get me wrong, I will donate some of my fat $8.75 an hour to support democrats in 2010, but the DCCC? No thanks, unless they intend to help democrats in tough districts in return.

1. Good for you because they are only backing corporate friendly candidates |
|
to begin with. Better that you spend your money by donating to the candidate of your choice directly.

3. that sucks, especially since CA-2 is a level 2 district |
|
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/hfojvt/99I told the guy I was a DFA donor and would support my own district's candidate, if we ever get one.

Some California fundraiser. I won't give to Dem organizations anymore. I only give directly to candidates.

15. I've been telling them that since 2006 and they still don't care. |
|
Fine. Now between the economic crunch and health care costs (WITH insurance it still costs too much out of pocket) I can't afford to give money anyway. If I can devote the time I will work for local candidates I pick individually but not one more penny will go to the national or state Democratic Party or their campaign committees.

16. I'm Starting to Rethink my Giving |
|
While I will give to candidates I agree with, I wonder if I should be giving to organizations, i.e., Planned Parenthood, rather than Dems. I know for sure what Planned Parenthood believes, I can't say the same for Dems.

18. Yeah, but I am at the point I want my money going to local or state people |
|
Whose opinions I can have more sway over. Then I hope some of them can work their way up in the party.
The problem I have with giving to organizations is that they will use my money to get people in other places elected, leaving me in a crappy red state that is an embarrassment of politics - I live in Florida. I want a governor I am proud to claim, senators and representatives that are real Democrats or progressives and not Blue Dog DINOs.
If I had more money I would spread it around. But all I can contribute now is time - if that - so volunteering is my best bet.

6. The days of just handing my money over to the corporate water-carriers is over. |
|
I will give and work for progressive candidates only. It's better that way. And they always need the help more and deserve it more.
Kudos to you XemaSab.

7. I'm not donating to a slush fund that supports DLC candidates |
|
I'm spending a little more wisely and supporting non DLC primary candidates and non DLC candidates in the generals.
My pockets are reasonably deep but I'm not going to throw it away on electing more enemies just because they've got a "D" after their names.
I'm sure the DCCC will have plenty of corporate donations to use to support their corporate candidates. I don't have that kind of money, so mine has to be targeted where it will do the most good.

I'm sure no one at the DCCC cares, but it felt good anyway.

11. I tell them that I am trying to save up for my next medical co-pay |
|
I ran for office last year, so I was very involved with the DNC, DCCC, DFA, and WFP (NYS third party - labor union party that cross endorses pro labor candidates, usually democrats).. So I used to get a great deal of calls.
I remember I had sent away for a free health care reform bumpersticker. I might send it back for a health insurance mandate sticker.
But after I got my sticker, I would get at least a call per week, if not more. I haven't heard from anyone lately..

20. NEVER give to the DCCC, DSCC, or DNC.. they take your money and get the credit for it. |
|
:applause:
Meanwhile your local Democrat doesn't have a clue who you are or what you want.
ALWAYS give directly to PROGRESSIVE candidates of your own choice. This way YOU (and not some matching corporate DLC donor) get the credit and the candidate remembers YOUR name, not the corporate matching donor's name.
I've totally stopped giving to these umbrella groups and only give directly and guess what, elected officials know my name and take my calls.
