Woman seeking donations of canine garb to help warm dogs of homeless
Edited on Sat Jan-09-10 08:49 PM by slackmaster
Kelly Tomke has been a personal friend of mine for about 20 years. I just got home from playing a lively game of croquet with her and a couple of other people.

She is collecting dog clothing to be distributed to dogs belonging to homeless people.

Please check this out, and send her an email if you can help out.

2. Thank you!
I told Kelly that if anyone tells her that slackmaster sent them, that's me. She is not a DUer as far as I know (and I think I would know if she was).

3. K&R.
Those dogs are the only thing that gives some homeless the will to continue. This is an incredibly compassionate idea!

6. I do the same thing. I have a big dog costume party every year...
around Halloween. The admission is a box of treats for our local shelter dogs. The invitation always includes a list of things the shelter needs for the winter like coats, blankets, towels, stainless steel bowls and clean newspaper.

The first year I held one I, hopefully, put two big bins at the top of my driveway so people could drop things off on their way in. To my surprise we collected an entire truckload of clean blankets and towels, several brand new dog beds and over 14 cases of treats.

Now my whole neighbor hood donates great stuff even if they don't have pets. People come with cases of treats and just stay to see all the pups in costumes doing tricks. We even have a little two block parade.

Anyone can do this in their neighborhood. October is a great time because it's right before the cold and needy days of winter. Just make sure that you get a list from your shelter. You always want to give what people really need.

8. Ugh, why not make something for the people w/o fur coats?
Seriously, fur coats are warm.

9. Dogs deserve to be warm too.
Not all dogs' "fur coats" as you call them are sufficient enough for the types of frigid temps we've been seeing.

Last I heard one's charitable work was one's own decision to make. Did I miss the memo where we had to secure your approval first?

10. A live dog can warm you up better than any fur coat
I'm a cat guy myself, but it works the same way.

14. isn't that the truth! lol. Thanks for the info, I'm sure it helped
There are always drives for needs for the homeless people, but very rarely do you hear about the needs of homeless animals.

I started learning about TNR (trap, neuter, return) for feral cats a couple years ago and was astounded at how many homeless cats there are, sight unseen to most humans. It sucks thinking about all the suffering in the extreme cold across the globe. Every animal counts!

18. WHY do people like you always go after someone who is
Edited on Tue Jan-12-10 04:01 AM by Raine
doing something simply because their cause isn't yours? It's not up to you to decide whose issue is more important especially when so many do absolutely nothing. Your kind of elitism is really sickening. :puke:

Edit: typo

20. This is a wonderful thing to do...
However last month alone 4 people froze to death on the streets in just Chicago...I have no idea how many all together in America in this cold snap.
And have any of you even bothered to look at the shelves at the local food banks?
It is just terrible how many empty shelves there are..and what long lines.
All I am saying is we all need to do more as there are so many more homeless and pets on the streets...
