Stupidanopoulos: "I should have pressed" Giuliani on "no domestic attacks under Bush" falsehood
Gee, ya think?

http://mediamatters.org/blog/201001080038

January 08, 2010 4:35 pm ET by Media Matters staff

From a January 8 post to George Stephanopoulos' ABCNews.com blog:

Through his spokesman, Rudy Giuliani has clarified the remarks he made this morning on GMA regarding terrorist attacks on the United States under Presidents Bush and Obama.

The Mayor's spokesman says that the remark "didn't come across as it was intended" and that Giuliani was "clearly talking post-9/11 with regards to Islamic terrorist attacks on our soil."

Whatever the Mayor meant, it's not what he said. All of you who have pointed out that I should have pressed him on that misstatement in the moment are right. My mistake, my responsibility.

2. The DC sniper was a Muslim.
And he damn sure terrorized a bunch of people..

So Rudy's clarification is bullshit too..

3. George is so remorseful
that on his show this morning he's having Liz Cheney on to further the attack on the President.
What a fu**ing tool he is.

4. This bullshit is going
on on every TV channel. Watch the Sunday Morning discussion programs to see verification of this unfairness.

If Democrats won the election, both the presidency and congress, why are they not given equal time on TV to refute the RW lies?

10. When republicans were in charge you rarely saw a Democrat. Especially
about issues on National Security. Maybe that token one every now and then. We never saw former election losers have so much air time. Now they dominate the discussion. Dick Cheney and McCain come to mind.

6. These people aren't journalists. They are not doing journalism.
These programs are not interviews. They are two actors reading a script that is prepared in advance. I doubt that Georgie even heard that comment. He was simply waiting for the answer to end so he could read his next line. Hell, he may not even have been in the same room.

When was the last time you heard an intelligent follow-up question that actually probed and challenged something that was said? That almost never happened anymore when they are dealing with "friendly witnesses".

8. Yes, he should have, and I'm sure he's terribly surprised
people objected to the fact that he just nodded blandly at the lie.

"Journalists" have been letting right wingers lie without challenge for too damned long.

It's one reason I turned broadcast news off 5 years ago. It's bloody useless.

9. If I was having a small debate with my right wing neighbor---
and he pulled a Gulliani... I would have immediately nailed him on it... George S. is full of shit---he let it go because he's bought and paid for.

12. calling them on it after the fact is ineffective
Stephanopolous needed to call him on it right there and then, otherwise, the meme sticks, to some degree, and THAT is why neocons speak crap like that in the first place. And every time a journalist fails to call them on it right then and there, our common language looses a bit more of its linguistic integrity.

17. Okay, that's all done, time to go pick up his fat paycheck for the week
Remember this sort of thing the next time you hear a bunch of these multi-millionaires having an earnest discussion about the unemployment rate, or home foreclosures, or, well, practically anything. Because the chances are excellent that they don't have the first clue about whatever the subject is, and any of them will foist a similar howler on the public, knowing full well that nobody else on the panel will call them on it.

18. Main Street
Neither owns the media nor buys ads from it but, unfortunately, Main Street is addicted to it and buys services from it. Information is power means control of the access to and flow of information is power.

That's big of him. On a blog that reaches a fraction of the people who actually watch his show.

Idiot.
