Update: Wally World has fired 69 year old Ed Bauman

Bauman was the door greeter who was in the news recently for getting in a scuffle with a departing customer.

Bauman went into Walmart hoping to get back to work for the first time since police said he was punched by a customer. Instead, Bauman said he was fired. His termination notice called the incident an act of "gross misconduct" and accused Bauman of fighting with a customer.

"They told me I did a good job of defending myself," said Bauman. "Then they turned around and fired me."

Police said Bauman acted within his rights and was not charged. The customer was charged with a felony.

3. No incentive to pay healthcare for a 70 yr. old for a job a younger, healthier person can do. THAT's
how our crappy health insurance system hurts labor.

6. Age 70 is medicare eligible, and any earnings do not impact social
security.

4. Nice.
Get it now, Walmart workers? Management doesn't give a shit about you.

Next time a customer attacks you, just let him. Then go to your boss and apologize for all the blood on the floor.

They MIGHT not fire you.

10. All retail stores will fire
you if you try to defend yourself. I currently work for Loomis carrying the big bucks. I know if I'm attacked and fight back I will be fired. As the old saying goes better tried by 12 than carried by six.

11. How many times did they think he should let himself get punched and possibly worse?
Even though it makes sense as policy for some occupations, such as yours where presumably weapons are involved, physical violence like this man went through may just get worse if you do nothing ..... a kick to the temple ... stuff that can kill you, obviously. I hope knowing he did what was right for himself is of some comfort to him. Screw WalMart.

12. It is much cheaper for any corporation
to pay the death benefits of any employee killed than it is to pay for the law suits for any employee to kill some scumbag.

13. But plainclothes security employees get into physical scuffles
with shoplifters all the time! My ex used to work for WM years ago, and she witnessed this on a regular basis.

15. Actually, it is "termination" no matter how you leave
Even if you leave on good terms, their internal online interface is the "termination" interface.
