In an honest race about the issues, no conservative would ever win.
Conservatism is ultimately the shouting, whining defense of ideas that are dead or dying and the knee-jerk rejection of anything new. It is the idolatrous worship of a past that never truly existed. Leave them on their own, stop pretending that they have anything relevant to offer, and they'll rot away just as surely as their bankrupt philosophy already has.

Why concede a single point to them on anything? What have conservatives ever been right about? Social Security? Um, no. Medicare? Nope. Civil rights? Wrong again. Those sorry bastards didn't even want to take on Hitler. They are only interested in defending themselves and in jerking off each other with their insane fantasies that they're a majority in this or any other civilized country.

No moderate should ever side with a conservative and still call himself or herself (and I'm thinking specifically of certain so-called Senate moderates) a moderate. Moderation that advocates regressing more slowly is still regressive. If I favor dragging my knuckles on the ground at 15 mph instead of 55 mph, I'm still a knuckle-dragger.

These bastards ought to be fought every step of the way by continually pointing out a simple fact: They are always wrong and they prove it every time they get a chance. We are always right and only need the chance to prove it.

Rant finished. Thanks for reading.

1. We don't need to ignore them. We need to destroy them.

2. By "ignore them," I mean stop pretending that their ideas are worthy of discussion.
They aren't.

4. If conservatives vote and progressives don't - issues make no difference

5. Jesus and guns. Eternal life which government cannot bestow. It is an irrational value system.
But Americans LOVE that stuff.

6. The problem is the corporate whore media
My God, have you seen the ABC News since Diane Sawyer took over? I used to think Chuckles Gibson was a pathetic hack. Now I think I'm watching FAUX! When you frame every issue in right wing dogma, how the fuck is anybody supposed to know there IS any other side to the issue?

7. I disagree on one point

I think there was a past that existed that was good for the majority of American people. I am a boomer, my parents and their generation were the greatest generation. They got there, after an awful war, through the GI Bill and other "socialist" programs. No other generation enjoyed the college benefits, the small business loans and mortgage assistance than the greatest generation. No other generation enjoyed the union benefits.

I am a boomer and grew up in suburban Chicago. My Dad was an architect, my neighbors dads were union printers for the trib, used car salesmen, Armenian carpet store owner, sound technician for NBC locally. Few had college degrees but all did something useful and all earned enough of a living to have a single income earner able to pay the bills and the other parent able to raise the children.

This middle class has disappeared, sucked dry by the elites as well as their own petard, the idea that they too could join the elites...

FDR and the Great Society combined with the GI Bill built the America I grew up in, the social programs that assisted everyone, Ronnie Raygun set himself to dismantle it all, we are still trying to tread water....

9. 'Conservatism' as a political ideology
was invented out of whole cloth very recently to counter Americans' natural innate liberalism. The U.s. is a liberal country. How could a country conceived and born in violent revolution against established authority be anything other than liberal?

10. Unfortunately, elections aren't won through reason (at least- not by itself)
as scientists who actually how these processes work- guys like George Lakoff and Drew Westen for example, have told us all repeatedly.

Sad0 or rather, ironic that the "party of science" is so reluctant (or incapable) of taking the scientists advice.
