so, who ratted out harry? |

reid says this 'privately' and it winds up in a book....who snitched? “He (Reid) was wowed by Obama's oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama — a 'light-skinned' African American 'with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,' as he later put it privately,” according to the book.harry must know.... http://www.nevadaappeal.com/article/20100110/NEWS/10010...

Seriously... I don't give a crap if he said it publicly or privately. He should have known better.
And for those of you using his age as a defense... my Mom is older than Harry and she would never dream of saying something that stupid.

4. Except, of course, that it was true. |

Yell all you want. There are FABULOUS people in every venue of American business and politics who were not even considered for national office because they are too dark and/or have too ghetto or southern an accent. Maybe next time out they will be, but no way it was happening for the first time.
I can't believe the prissiness about it. An asset is an asset. He wasn't too dark and he spoke pure middle class standard American. And he was still on his first wife. Are we really so vapid we're pretending none of this mattered? That merit alone brought him forward? The only thing that was going to trump the first woman was the first black man. If he wasn't scary.

Maybe Harry could have put it in more PC terms, but what he said was accurate and it did matter. Obama could never have won if he sounded like and looked like Charles Barkley. He couldn't have won if he said "ax" instead of "ask". It may not be PC, but you know it and I know it. Dewey couldn't win with a mustache. Some men are too short or too heavy. Bald matters. Perot's looks hurt him and so does the way Kucinich looks. It might not be fair, but it is a fact of political life. Nixon would have won in 1960 if Kennedy looked like me.

9. Yeah. Manufactured outrage again. Appearance counts, like it or not, and... |
|
Reid was talking like a hardass ward-heeler promoting an attractive candidate. Nothing racist about that.
Back when Vanessa Williams won Miss America, I was kicking it around with a black friend of mine who stopped the conversation with "So what? They're never gonna pick one of the shiny ones."
Appearance counts.
(Imagine if Reid had said THAT!)

5. "So why are they out to get Harry?" is a better question. |
|
Reid has been the consummate corporate/military tool, and he deserves better than this for his devoted service.
You may be sure in any case that we are not being told about this at this late date because of a desire to keep the public informed.

Harry Reid is helping push the Presidents agenda through. No matter what it is still pretty remarkable to get all sixty senators to get it together with all of the opposition and back room deals that had to met.To do this is pure treason to the other side and they have no problem causing dissension in our party so that we can be mad at Harry Reid while they come up with another no plan to climate change and global warming, and any other new bills that are to hit the floor. We should not worry about this incident if we don't make a big deal then like every thing else it will go away until the election in Nevada,by then hopefully We will have someone better to choose from than him.Good Luck Nevada
