Can Mark McGwire unseat Harry Reid?
Not for the senate, just in the news cycle.

NEW YORK - Mark McGwire finally came clean Monday, admitting he used steroids when he broke baseball’s home run record in 1998.

McGwire said in a statement sent to The Associated Press on Monday that he used steroids on and off for nearly a decade.

“I wish I had never touched steroids,” McGwire said in a statement. “It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era.”

1. He just might and I hope
Sammy Sosa adds his own two cents to the conversation. McGwire deserves at least as much grief as Sosa. Course those in charge of baseball and the owners need to be held to the fire even more. They allowed it and made the most money off it. The whole thing dirties baseball and a great game.

I do not condone the use of steroids for sports at all and my wanting McGwire to go through what the rest did is not to be taken as condoning it.

3. I blame Selig.
He knew it was going on. Maybe not the specifics, but he knew players were failing drug tests, and he knew the stories. He did nothing to stop it, and he even encouraged it by focusing so much on home runs and other crowd-pleasing events rather than protecting the integrity of the sport. If he had taken a firm stance against them early on, maybe the whole thing wouldn't have been so bad. At the very least, we'd be more clear that those who used steroids should be punished. As it is, I don't know who to keep out of Cooperstown because I have no idea who really wasn't using. If anyone.
