Is there anyone Jay Leno won't screw over ?
I have never liked Leno since he lied to Dave Letterman about his attempts to land the Tonight Show gig years ago. Now it looks like he is screwing Conan O'Brien over as well. It is being reported that Leno is moving back to his old slot on NBC and pushing Conan's show back.

In addition, Leno's show only took off when he stole most everything that Letterman was already doing.

I think Leno is a lying piece of crap and he shouldn't take out his lack of success with his new show on Conan O'Brien by taking his old time slot back. Jay took a gamble and lost. I know I won't watch his new show whatever it is called.

I think he's an unfunny asshat.
The only thing is I think Conan O'Brien is even less funny.
I'll stick with Dave.

7. Excuse me...why blame Jay Leno...NBC
is the culprit. they are ones doing it. As Leno said it was their decision. And the reason they are doing it is because Conan fell flat on his face. There is only a core group of people who watch him. Leno made too much money so NBC had to cut him back. And that's why they are only giving him a half hour. If you don't like Jay Leno, OK, but don't be like republicans and blame him for a decision his bosses made.

Riiiight! Jay is only doing what he is commanded to do by those NBC bastards. So you are seriously offering that if the head office at NBC decided that Leno should do a 3:00am-3:30am show completely devoted to Strawberry Shortcake while wearing a TuTu he would HAVE TO DO IT right?

That is very funny actually! Thanks for the chuckle!

13. Um, no.
The problem with the ratings is Leno. Ratings for that time slot tanked. Affiliates saw their 11:00 news ratings tank because of Leno. And Conan's problems with the ratings are likely because of Leno as well, for the same reason.

Leno isn't very funny, nor do I watch his show (whether at 10 pm or 11:30 pm), but NBC forced this situation to happen with their horrible planning. They are idiots who wanted to keep both Leno and O'Brien. Oops. Now they look like fools and made both Leno and O'Brien mistrustful.

15. It's NBC screwing them over, because of rebellions from local NBC's
What happened is NBC planned on having Leno start down in the ratings and catch up during the reruns. Local 11 o clock news suffered from having a weak lead in show (like NBC planned). The local NBC networks were threatening to 'take matters into their own hands' if the problem of a weak lead in show wasn't fixed.

Jay Leno performed exactly as NBC execs expected, but Conan, hasn't been, he blew over a decade of NBC having the #1 rating slot at 11:30 PM. I stopped watching the tonight show a week or two after Conan took it over. Maybe now Conan can actually recover in the ratings by having Jay Leno be the lead in to his show again, that's why he was so successful before.

16. Reality check: Leno got better ratings in the same time slot Conan now has.
It's a simple business decision. You go with the show that gets the higher ratings. Under those circumstances, offering Conan to keep his full hour on air, but just move 25 minutes back in the schedule while having the better ratings draw Leno only get a 25 minute show, is a pretty good offer. It lets Conan work longer on building up an audience and it keeps more viewers coming in who they can sell to advertisers.

This is show business, not "who does daddy NBC love more." Seinfeld's take on this is correct: once the camera's on you, it's your job to deliver the audience. Conan hasn't.

27. This is the sort of argument I'd make if the facts ran against me too.
Let me repeat: in the SAME 11:30/10:30 time slot, following the local news (and not directly following Leno) Conan had lower ratings than Leno when Leno had the SAME 11:30/10:30 time slot.

Please try to respect facts.

32. I'll be your huckleberry Bucky!
Your argument is severely weakened from the FACT that it took Jay Leno a while to win his time slot after Johnny Carson left. In fact, I believe it was almost a year before Leno drew even with Letterman. And, that was only after his show had to be retooled which is a nice way of saying that his show initially sucked until he STOLE Dave Letterman's set, his hip band set-up and many of his skits. Leno is a liar and a thief in my book.

Sure, NBC wants to tinker with their talent and their scheduale and they have every right to do those things. Simply because NBC may want Jay Leno back in his spot, he should show just an ounce of class and get out of Conan's way. He had his shot and he gave it up on a gamble and now he wants it back. A true Wall Street outlook. He feels entitled to his position and the hell with anyone else. He screwed Letterman, Carson didn't like him and now he is screwing Conan. That is why O'Brien is is not happy and wants to leave.

22. Conan's ratings tanked
while Leno whipped Letterman in the ratings from 1995 to 2009. Can't say I blame NBC for wanting their 11:30 ratings back and I wouldn't describe it as Jay "screwing over" Conan.

And I know it's fashionable to bash Leno here but I always kind of liked him. He told some pretty funny Bush jokes:

“President Bush announced he plans to help out homeowners in this mortgage-lending crisis thing that’s going on. He said millions of people could lose their house, and you know, he knows what he’s talking about. Last November he lost a house and the Senate.”

“Bush is upset, very upset that the Iraqi parliament has failed any major legislation since taking office. I guess, of course, on the other hand, it made him feel right at home.”

The White House announced President Bush is on the last page of the Harry Potter book. So, apparently, he's reading it backwards.

President Bush welcomed the prime minster of India to the White House today. Bush said, "While you're here, can you look at my computer for a second?"

One of the big problems in Iraq right now is agreeing on a constitution. They should do what the Bush administration does: Have a constitution, but just don’t use it.

Happy Birthday to U.S. President Bush, he’s 59. If you haven’t gotten him a birthday gift yet, I know he’s still looking for an exit strategy for Iraq.

U.S. President Bush met with Palestinian president Abbas. There was one embarrassing moment when he said to Abbas, “I love your hit, Dancing Queen.”

President Bush said he was anxious to see the film though he was a little upset when he heard it was in Aramaic and Latin. Bush said "Why make a movie only Arabs and Latinos would understand?"

According to a new poll, if the election were held today both John Kerry and John Edwards would beat George Bush by double-digit margins. In fact, the White House is so worried they're thinking about moving the capture of Osama bin Laden up to next month.

President Bush is now focusing on jobs. I think the one job he's focusing most on ... his own.

Some sad news, President Bush's lap dog passed away. I didn't know Tony Blair was sick. I was shocked.

President Bush was on Meet The Press Sunday, a lot of his White House staffers thought it was a bad idea …"Hey…better than him going on Jeopardy"…Be honest…He didn't seem very well prepared…actually there was a reason he wasn't prepared, see Bush thought he was just gonna to meet the press, he didn't know there was gonna be questions….There was one kind of embarrassing moment where President Bush was asked if he was ever AWOL?" and he said "No no no I have Earthlink…we use Earthlink, can't get AOL"

The Bush administration says it will file a brief with the Supreme Court over the University of Michigan's affirmative action policy, saying it's wrong to determine acceptance based on race. Bush said acceptance should be based on fair things like what private school you went to, who's your dad, how much money you gave to the alumni fund."

"President Bush has declared Sunday to be National Sanctity of Human Life Day. He said we have to protect the weak, the imperfect and the unwanted. But first, we have to give tax cuts to the rich."

This Sunday, President Bush will be at the Daytona 500 for the start of NASCAR season. President Bush is a big fan of NASCAR. Bush says if it weren't for NASCAR, man never would have stepped foot on the moon. Finally, somebody said, "Uh, sir ... that's NASA."

A Newsweek poll said if the election were held today, John Kerry would beat Bush 49 percent to 46 percent. And today, President Bush called Newsweek magazine a threat to world peace." -

Today President Bush said he was "troubled" by gay people getting married in San Francisco. He said on important issues like this, the people should make the decision, not judges - unless of course we're choosing a president, then he prefers judges.

I was watching TV last night and I saw an interesting documentary on TV last night about the ninja - you know, the Japanese soldiers. According to the legend, the ninjas were warriors who could make themselves invisible whenever we fought in a war. You know, kinda like George Bush in the National Guard.

In his annual economic report to Congress President Bush said that the transfer of American jobs overseas is actually part of a positive transformation that will enrich the U.S. economy over time. So basically, losing your job to someone else can be a good thing - of course we'll see how he feels about that in November.

Happy President's Day everybody! Today of course is the day we honor our presidents. We honor Bill Clinton by having a mattress sale, and most people don't have to work today, we honor George Bush

Earlier today President Bush spent some time with National Guard troops in Louisiana. When Bush arrived, the commanding officer said, "You're a little late."

A retired Alabama National Guard commander says he remembers President Bush showing up there for duty back in the seventies. He says Bush used to come into his office and read. However, payment records released by the White House suggest that was not President Bush. Hey, the fact the guy was reading I think suggests it wasn't president Bush.

Yesterday President Bush stopped off at a bass pro fishing store to pick up a fishing reel, some line and some rubber worms. He's going to disappear and go fishing. So he must think he's back in the National Guard again.

Does this bother a lot of people? Who cares if Bush did his job in the National Guard 30 years ago - I'm more frightened about the job he's doing now.

Today in the L.A. Times, one critic wrote that the problem with John Kerry is "he looks like he thinks too much." Well, you won't hear anyone accusing President Bush of that.

if you're going to care about such frivolous things, at least try to understand matters before you post opinions about them. Conan did okay with his later timeslot. It's a later hour and draws a different audience. When he moved up an hour, that's when his ratings tanked--not in comparison to what he'd done before but in comparison to what Leno had done before with the same time slot.

36. I think Leno is often quite funny.
He told a joke years ago that I still laugh at whenever I think about it. He was talking about his little old mother, who was always frugal, since times were tight when he was young. One of the things she did to save money was to save her cooking grease in a can to be reused several times before being thrown out. (My mother did this too, BTW.)

After he became successful, his mother used to badger him about not being frugal enough. Once when she saw him throwing out the grease from cooking dinner, she told him to save it, since it could be used again.

He said, “Ma, I am doing pretty well now. I don’t need to save and reuse my cooking grease.”

She replied, “Well, you never know what might happen. You could run into financial trouble someday.”

Then Leno deadpanned: “Yeah . . .and what? Cash in my grease?”

38. Leno beat Letterman by about a half a rating point.
That is hardley being whipped. When you consider that NBC has a much stronger station line-up and that then NBC affiliates in 150 markets had the number one late local news giving Leno a superior lead in, Letterman did pretty well. Plus Letterman also had much better demographics so CBS was able to charge more to advertisers, Letterman is the real winner.

He's hardly ever been funny and seems to have spent the last decade living off recycled Clinton jokes that have long since passed their used-by-date. I saw the promo for his new show and it basically consisted of him making puns on the names of African countries to make them sound sexually suggestive (i.e. Djibouti "your booty" and so on). He is one of the lamest entertainers (if you can call him that) I've seen on television and that's saying something.

40. No there isn't.
Leno stabbed Carson and Letterman in the back to get the Tonight Show. He threw is longtime agent under the bus to keep it and is now rolling over Conan.

NBC screwed this up in the '90s when they gave the Tonight Show to Leno and thought they could keep Letterman happy at 12:30. They gambled and lost their dominance over the Late Night daypart. They gambled again by putting Leno at 10PM. All that accomplished was to lose their affiliates money and undermine Conan. Now they are going to damage the Tonight Show franchise and Conan even further. All to make Jay Leno happy. They are destroying their own house for one man. The only winner in all of this is David Letterman.
