Attention air travelers: That tug at your wallet is about to happen again, courtesy of the world's biggest airline.

Delta Air Lines Inc. is raising its fees to check your first bag on a domestic flight by $8 and the second bag by $7. That will mean $23 for the first bag and $32 for the second.

It will continue to cost you even more if you don't pay the fees in advance on the airline's Web site. Delta is calling that add-on a surcharge — $2 for the first bag and $3 for the second. You will have to pay the surcharges if you check your bags at an airport ticket counter, kiosk or curbside.

The new fees are for travel beginning Tuesday on tickets purchased on or after Jan. 5. Tickets purchased before then, regardless of when the travel begins, are subject to the current fees — $15 for the first bag and $25 for the second.

The domestic bag fee increases apply to travel in coach within the 50 states, U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada and Puerto Rico. ............(more)

I never liked Delta in the first place.

I agree with the previous post: vote with your wallet. Choose another carrier. Delta will get the message.

4. At the same time mileage reimbursement has gone down from .55 cents to .05 cents

When driving long distances the losses add up. Of course, if we wait long enough the price of gas will go up again and so will the reimbursement amount.

5. Then You are not going to like

....February 12th..... That's the day the FAA imposes mandatory carry on size limits so that big HERKIN BAG you try to put up in the overhead is going to have to go below.....I believe the max size will be 20x16x6....

..... despite my grumblings about the fee, I'd rather pay it than be one of those people who bops everyone in the head with the kitchen sink they attempt to bring onto the plane.
My solution is just to keep flying to an absolute minimum. I've rediscovered the joy of riding the rails, and Megabus makes the bus a non-scary experience.
