Imagine
Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
--John Lennon

Rather than watch the "news," and arguing, I propose that each and every one of us sing (or humm) this song today.

Thank you for your consideration.

H2O Man

4. I introduced Imagine to my sons by taking them to see Rain,

A Beatles Tribute. Then my son introduced me to http://www.youtube.com/user/greenday?blend=1&ob=4#p/u/5/0Yi-LvnM_5M">American Idiot by Green Day. It kind of creates a juxtaposition of what we aspire to and what we have in America when combining the two.

Warning: Graphic Lyrics

And I frequently do just that --

Music is very important to all of us --

They say when the music stops the movement stops -- i.e., the revolution.

I think that's true -- and I think the music was purposefully stopped.

What I'm pointing to is the connection between the two --

the political movement --

26. I woke up this morning, turned on the news, then shut it off immediately.
I just turned it on out of habit, saw John McCain jabbering about something and just shut it off. I thought, "Today's my birthday. I want only positive thoughts on my mind today".

So thanks for helping me focus on the positive. Without intending to, you helped make my birthday happy.

29. Call me crazy, but I think some of us are moving in this direction, as a response
Edited on Tue Jan-12-10 10:32 PM by patrice
to seeing how things really are, since necessity is the mother of invention some are reviving old long held values. If things couldn't get much worse for lots of people, they will have nothing to lose to change.

I think for a significant number of people, things being as bad as they are will just make them drop all of the pretense and get real. They'll just give up all of the shit we interpose between us, because they will be able to see how much they need and others need to care for one another.

34. You see, we boomers did make the best music -- just kidding
Sitting in my funky home office, looking out at our prayer flags, quietly sang it to myself. I feel so much better.

Many thanks.

38. I have had only two heros...
.. in my life. Robert F Kennedy and John Lennon.

"Imagine" is, IMO, the best song ever written.

John, the world could use some of you today, we miss you more than words can say.

41. In the same spirit, may I offer the following
Merger Poem

By Judy Chicago

And then all that has divided us will merge
And then compassion will be wedded to power
And then softness will come to a world that is harsh and unkind

And then both men and women will be gentle
And then both women and men will be strong
And then no person will be subject to another's will

And then all will be rich and free and varied
And then the greed of some will give way to the needs of many

And then all will share equally in the Earth's abundance

And then all will care for the sick and the weak and the old

And then all will nourish the young
And then all will cherish life's creatures

And then everywhere will be called Eden once again
