If a person believes that abortion should be illegal and wants to kill based off of those beliefs...
Edited on Tue Jan-12-10 10:11 AM by ck4829
Why stop there?

Should it also be legal to walk into a church and shoot...
A drug user?
A known prostitute?
A soldier about to go to Iraq or Afghanistan?
A gay or lesbian?

Simply because the killer BELIEVES that the listed above violated their interpretation of what the law SHOULD be and that violation warranted death?

1. They think its self-defense - Killing someone about to kill a child
Edited on Tue Jan-12-10 10:14 AM by stray cat
A defenseless child who is no threat to anyone. Most of us disagree with the motive but we should at least state it correctly.

I disagree
I think true motive is Roeder acted like a judge, jury, and executioner based off of the interpretation of the law that exists only in his head.

is the one outlined by stray cat, not yours. And God help us all if he's succcessful.

24. Since when is a fetus a child or a baby?
An embryo is just that and a fetus is just that neither are a child or a baby. They are not yet living human beings. Until birth they are just a part of the woman.

Not legally, not ethically. Saying it is doesn't make it so.

8. Can 'choice' protestors at women's clinics...
now be shot for making a protest against settled law?

Against high-ranking prelates of the Catholic church using their position to destroy a chance at health care using the settled-law of choice be subject to a justified shooting?

Looks like the lid on Pandora's box is now open for business.

22. I wasn't referring to Roeder's proposed defense
I was making a response to SharesUnited general comment that more guns = more crime and more people taking things into their own hands. I have yet to see any research from SharesUnited to support such a ridiculous statement.

However since that is a different subject, I apologize to everybody else for arguing a different issue in this thread.

34. Again no
How about you start supporting your comments with some facts, not unsubstantiated anti-gun talking points.

In fact in the year I have been posting and lurking (mostly lurking) I don't think I have EVER seen you back up one of your anti-gun talking points with actual facts. Mostly you seem to make a couple of remarks and then wander off when people actually able to support their point of view join the discussion.

4. Works the other way too-how many RWers need to be gone.
The Monty Python version

I've Got A Little List :
As some day it may happen that a victim must be found,
I've got a little list, I've got a little list
Of society offenders who might well be underground,
And who never would be missed, they never would be missed!
There's interior designers, window dressers and that sort
Bank robbers who retire to Spain the minute they get caught
Or those who have their noses pierced or men who die their hair
Or idiots who host chat shows and disc jockeys everywhere
And customs men who fumbling through your underwear insist
They'd none of them be missed, They'd none of them be missed!

CHORUS: He's got them on the list, He's got them on the list
And they'll none of them be missed, They'll none of them be missed.

There's the people with pretentious names like Justin, Trish and Rofle

And the gynecologist, I've got him on the list!
All muggers, joggers, buggers, floggers, people who play golf
They never would be missed, They never would be missed!
All waitresses who make you wait, accountants of all kinds
And actresses who kiss and tell and wiggle their behinds
And poncey little singers who to entertain us try
By dressing up like women and by singing far too high
And who on close observance must be either stoned or pissed
I don't think they'd be missed, I'm sure they'd not be missed!

CHORUS: He's got them on the list, He's got them on the list
And they'll none of them be missed, They'll none of them be missed.

There's the beggars who write letters from the Inland Revenue

And the gossip columnist, I've got him on the list!
Comedians and weightlifters and opera singers too
They'd none of 'em be missed, They'd none of 'em be missed.
All traffic wardens, bankers, men who sell Venetian blinds
All people who wear silly ties, Australians of all kinds
And nasty little editors whose papers are the pits
Who fill their rags with gossip and with huge and floppy... writs
But anyway I think by now you must have got the gist
They'd none of them be missed, They'd none of them be missed!

CHORUS: You may put them on the list, You may put them on the list

And they'll none of them be missed, they'll none of them be missed!

5. You forgot one....
A Judge?

This is the most insanely irresponsible ruling I've ever seen. Not a lawyer here - is there no way to stop this trial (short of a mistrial, which I believe the insane judge must declare himself) on the direction of a higher authority? Or must this travesty continue and then have any verdict reviewed on appeal?

This judge is basically saying that if you have a sufficiently fervent and delusional ideological belief, then it's OK to kill somebody over it. All I can say is that we owe Timothy McVeigh a BIG FUCKING APOLOGY. He should be free on parole right now, right?

19. we understand their damned mindset just fine, thank you. it isn't about fetuses (NOT children, but
a biological parasite, thank you) it is about woman-hating, and a desperate desire to control their reproductive functions. you might notice, by the way, that these same people are generally against programs to aid these same children once actually born. and that stupid argument about "defending a child" can extend, to any group that a delusional twit wants to justify.

21. Justifiable Homicide
applies to cases where the your life, or the life of another person, is in imminent danger. If someone is attacking me, or you, with the intent of doing bodily harm, the law will justify the use of deadly force.

Dr. Tiller was standing in the Narthex of his church. He was not engaged in any activity that could be reasonably described as placing the shooter or any other person in imminent danger.

Fuck their mindset. The law does not allow them to murder someone because they fervently believe that someone deserves to be killed.

33. except that the death that you would be preventing has to be criminal in nature
if someone is about to die because of an accident, i can't go about shooting people to try to prevent it.

say i see a senile man someone wander off into a demo site. i can't kill the whole construction crew to save that person.

justifiable homicide only works when the LAW recognizes that the death you're preventing is criminal.

23. If it was legal to murder children under one years old
I think that killing a parent that was about to kill a 6 month old would be justified.

That is what I find so interesting about the right to lifers. I ask them if abortion is the murder of a child, why didn't Raygun, GHWBush, clinton, or Dumbya fight like hell to change the law?

If abortion is murder, why has the GOP allowed it to continue (to support their political agenda)?

27. I agree with your conclusion, but disagree on why it is bad for the GOP
Overturning roe v. wade will be a fight against sex. Abortion is based in the same privacy right that allows single people to purchase birth control.

When you fight on the side of prudes against sex, you lose. Americans want to have sex, they don't want their right to have sex, uh, fucked with.

The GOP may be thrilled by their victory over roe v. wade. But I bet a ton of promiscuous non-voters would make that victory very short lived.

Then why wouldn't it be OK to kill a judge who upholds the decisions of the Supreme Court?

in a sense, that is what it is anyway - a terrorist has been allowed to use his personal beliefs to argue for a lesser charge than premeditated murder.
