Is there really extensive information?
Or are they just breathlessly repeating the same shit over and over again like they do during hurricanes?

2. They were able to speak with someone there, and they had their earthquake |
|
guy on explaining it. There is no footage. Phone system is down.
So no, not just breathlessly repeating the same shit over and over. They're trying to inform people of the situation.

3. When shit happens, there's only one cable news station |
|
CNN is it.
MSNBC is fucked up when shit happens. If there's real news happening, MSNBC is my last choice.
And Faux Noise isn't even covering it, either.

4. Agree. I was just thinking that oh, I get it, CNN is Cable NEWS Network, MSNBC |
|
is "the place for politics".
Kind of OT -- but did you ever see live from Baghdad? It was about CNN in Baghdad (obviously) during the first Gulf strike. It was a different company then and risked a lot to stay there and cover it. Don't know if they are still of that caliber, but I'm grateful they're there with the news when it breaks. (Highly recommend the movie, by the way.)

9. A few people in Haiti are managing to get word out on Twitter |
|
and a few pictures have been posted. Some are here: http://radioteleginen.ning.com/profiles/blogs/pictures-of-haitiWe used to have to wait days for this stuff. Maybe the rescue and aid will be as quick to get to them as the news of the catastrophe has gotten to us.
