Reid Quote Nowhere Near as Bad as Lotts Quote
Edited on Tue Jan-12-10 08:29 PM by erpowers
Comparing a man who promoted a white supremacist to a man who discribed the racial features and dialect of a person is just stupid. Reids comment is nowhere near on the same level of Trent Lotts comment. In Lotts case he proudly gave support to a man who expressed white supermacist ideology. In making his comments Lott essentially said America would have been better off if it had not rejected a man who believed African Americans did not have the right to go to school with whites, African-Americans did not have the right to the same set of rules and privileges as whites, and that African-Americans were altogether inferior to white people. What Lott did was actually support racism. Harry Reid's comments are completely stupid, but they are not racist.

1. Ummm....there's no comparison whatsoever.
Those making a comparison are idiots. By saying it's not as bad infers there's a similarity in the two and there isn't. ;-)

4. You know what?
Reid has no excuse at all. Lets face the reality here. From just Reid had said it is clear and without doubt he should have known better and kept hs mouth shut and add to this from this comment alone it is pretty clear now that they powers that be which is congress and the senate decide and pick who they will put up and support as a candidate so the vote the people make is next to useless. Then the votes are off to the delegates and super delegates to further water down the peoples vote , not to leave out black box machines where I do feel both sides use them to steal votes otherwise the Dems would have removed them by now.

Lets put it this way , if Reid is so out of touch with the racia; issues in this country then he is out of touch with basic humanity and everything else that follows.

Not as bad as fill in the blank. Bull shit , it's all the same damn thing.

6. I'd like to hear a recording of him actually saying it
There are variations depending on pronunciation:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigra

When I was growing up in Georgia this prounciation was the preferred one among people of Reid's generation. It wasn't said as a slur (that was reserved for another variation). This pronunciation was actually considered genteel and polite.

7. Yes I know but this was 2008 wasn't it that Reid said this?
Yes Back in the days gone by this may have been acceptable but in 2008 or 2006 when ever it was Reid should have known better.

I do feel politicians are way out of touch as far as the real world is concerned. They live in their bubble.

5. You're right, but it's bad enough.
Somebody can always find a worse quote. I can't defend what Reid said, regardless.
