Ok, what the hell is happening in Massachusetts?
It Senator Kennedy's seat really that close to going to the Republican candidate? And also, if he does win, when is that seat up for election again? It'd be at the end of Kennedys term, is that in 2010 or 2012?

5. Special elections usually have low Dem turnout
The highest percentage of Dems show up for Presidential elections. Special elections usually favor Republicans because wealthier people feel a strong self-interest and social conservatives are often motivated.

4. Same thing that happened to Corzine in NJ.
Democrats aren't excited about the corporatist candidate. Independents are turned off by the health bill, bailouts, etc. The Republican base is all riled up over god-knows-what (Communist Acorn workers delaying the Rapture? Socialist sugar on their cornflakes?).

I'm not sure why the Independent isn't getting more traction. Don't know the first thing about him except his last name is Kennedy.

12. He's a Libertarian running as an Indpendent
and his first name is Joe. How's that for sneaky? I'm sure it will confuse any number of low information voters.

It's amazing how many knee jerk votes a candidate in Minnesota gets when they have a name like 'Johnson' or 'Anderson'. Several years ago a real nut case named Sharon Anderson ran in the Republican primary against their endorsed candidate for Attorney General. She didn't run much of a campaign, but she won. At the time, there was a popular local TV personality named Sharon Anderson and you can bet there were a lot of people who thought that's who they were voting for.

6. No, Coakley will not get less than 52% of the vote.
And Republicans will still declare victory.

I don't believe for a second that Brown will win.

10. I always thought this quote best described my home state
Adapt it for the Dem Party up here at will:

Philip Henslowe: Mr. Fennyman, allow me to explain about the theatre business. The natural condition is one of insurmountable obstacles on the road to imminent disaster.
Hugh Fennyman: So what do we do?
Philip Henslowe: Nothing. Strangely enough, it all turns out well.
Hugh Fennyman: How?
Philip Henslowe: I don't know. It's a mystery.

From Shakespeare in Love

Of course, doing nothing doesn't mean doing nothing. It means that the phone banks will run, the canvassing will run and the effort will ramp up this weekend. And Martha will win. But, it will also feel chaotic. As usual for us.
