Well just gave some money to Unicef
why? Children suffer the most.

Oh and if you care to know... UNICEF is still working with the children of Katrina.

I usually go through the ICRC, but I know either has people on the ground and my fifty bucks will go a LONG WAY to actually helping in funding the logistics train.

2. The haiti earthquake required some money
I gave to a different charity, but they were rated highly by charitynavigator.

5. MSF reports that two of its Port-au-Prince hospitals were seriously damaged.
"...(MSF) teams on the ground have witnessed significant damage to its medical facilities, injuries to patients and staff, and an influx of wounded towards these hospitals in the capital."

"MSF’s Trinite trauma center hospital, a 60-bed structure and one of the only free-of-charge surgical facilities in Port-au-Prince, was seriously damaged by the quake."

"At its Maternité Solidarité hospital, a 75-bed emergency obstetrics facility also in the capital, pregnant women, new mothers, and newborn children have been evacuated from the facility due to structural damage..."

MSF has been on my charity list for years. They have boots on the ground and can really get things done.

7. I think they just became my favored charity. I was happy for the reminder because
I don't usually think of them. I will from now on.

4. Another way to help...
For those interesting in helping immediately, simply text "HAITI" to "90999" and a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill.

6. A friend who has done aid work there recommends
http://www.pih.org/home.html -- Partners in Health. Apparently a great, LOW OVERHEAD organization. UNICEF has very high overhead.

And here's a great place with updated info on how to help. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/livecoverage/2010/01/haiti_earthquake_how_to_help.html. For example, one comment at this site says

The State Department also just announced this:

"For those interested in helping immediately, simply text "HAITI" to "90999" and a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill."
