New Gallup Poll
71 percent favor racial and ethnic profiling at airport security checks.

Since I saw this on Scarborough I can safely assume they asked only people who are white and stupid for their opinion.

5. And I'll counter your Rec with an UnRec just on principle for those obsessed with Rec/UnRec.
Kicking a thread is more important than giving it a Rec because it moves it to the top of the forum so it can be more visibly read. Perhaps you didn't know that. And I just gave this OP a kick with this response.

3. Wow
that's really fucked up. I love how people think that its just some Arab looking people we have to worry about, so they can handle the extra hassle. Yeah, well, what about this underwear bomber guy? He was black. What if we have more and more incidents involving Africans.
Are you going to start racially profiling the second largest racial group in the US? HELL NO (At least not at the Airport:eyes:) I'm sure you're correct, these asshats probably polled a bunch of old, anglo white people who are afraid of their own damn shadows.

Racial profiling is a goddamn joke. The real problem is that these TSA morons can't even keep track of individuals they know are confirmed threats.

9. "Arab-looking."
Trust me, many of us are "Arab-looking" to the uninitiated.

10. Under this rubric, my surgeon would be profiled. He is a black man from Nigeria.
Edited on Wed Jan-13-10 08:39 AM by CTyankee
He has a long, strange sounding (to us) name and a somewhat thick accent. This doctor successfully performed a surgical repair on me that my first, white, Ivy League, native English speaking surgeon could NOT do.

European looking terrorists available to carry out attacks?

This ethnic profiling practice would only give us a false sense of security that would result in us being less safe in the long term. JMO

to abuse this situation.

6. As Long As You're White...It's All Good...
These kind of polls can be misleading unless one hears how the question was framed and who was asked. If you haven't been a target of profiling...specifically white...it's all fine to profile since there's a good chance you won't be the one under suspicion. My bets are if you took this poll with predominately black, hispanic and middle eastern respondants, the results would be a lot different.

This security whack-a-mole game is pure kabuki theater as someone hellbent on creating mayhem has many ways of doing it. The fact that the ballbusterbomber failed miserably in with his crotch rocket meant nothing as the wave of fear and fear mongering that ensued amped up security and has turned traveling into a major pain. But it gives the pundits plenty of shit to stir...and we've seen some major league hypocrisy in its wake...and for what? You gotta think that if Al Queda or whomever is laughing their asses off and have found plenty of other holes in security if they wanted to do some real damage.

7. You'd be surprised who agrees with them.
Isn't there a popular liberal or left-leaning Libertarian commentator who said that they should only be looking at dark skinned people? I can't remember his name. He had a book with a picture of him in a convertible driving with Bin Laden. I want to say Bill Maher.

This is what I have been saying. The people they're going to harass and force to go through those radiation machines are going to be dark skinned people.

13. personally, I am not sure this would do any good... see this historic LIST of terrorists incidents:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_terrorist_incidents

would such "profiling" (as seems to be the current mood) have stopped the wannabe SHOE BOMBER, or Tim McVEY, or the person/s responsible for the ANTHRAX letters?

Personally, I think America would be better served by changing its attitudes and policies (both domestic and international)...
