RE Haiti: Let's call on world leaders and religious leaders to put their money where their mouths |
|
are.
If the nations of the world and the blowhards of religion would just take one day of the monies and goods they use to war and contribute to assisting the people of Haiti, this nation could see some real assistance. Can we shame the world into dialing back aggression, hatred, and bigotry and get some positive energy flowing.

Are you serious? The US alone will flood Haiti with relief and disaster aid. That's not to mention the EU or the countries of Central and South America who will be doing their fair share. And religious organizations will be at the forefront of any relief as well. One of the few things the world ever cooperates on is relief to disaster stricken countries.

6. How much of that relief is built on adding more debt rather than |
|
removing it from war budgets?

All he will do is ask the dummies who gave him the millions earlier this month to give for him.

9. But There's No Oil There... |

Sadly not much of anything in Haiti except misery and poverty. This nation has been the bastard child of this hemisphere since the French were kicked out 200 years ago. It's been ignored by it's Spanish speaking neighbors who have problems of their own, the US who thinks of the Carribbean as a lake for cruise ships and most of the "developed" world due to its sad history of repressive dictatorships and desolation. While I hope this disaster wakes up someone, the lack of media coverage bodes poorly for anything more than token assistance or "logisitcal support". The real heavy lifting will be done by the IRC and many NGOs...I've already made a donation to Doctors Without Borders.
