So, if you haven't seen the universitality, (is that a word?), of music and dance, and how it draws so many things, especially people together, I hope you enjoy Matt on his travels...(listen to the glee of the kids in some of this...it's just so cool)...:D

I hope you enjoy:

7. Sorry, "universitality" is not a word, but good try
the proper use would be universalification (n., the state of being universalified) or universalificatory (adj.)

You are welcome :eyes:

32. I haven't clicked the link yet but wanted to comment that if you've ever gone to
Summerdance in Chicago, it's easy to see how music and dance brings people together. Some nights, under the stars, with the Chicago skyline twinkling behind the stage and everyone twirling around you, it feels like Utopia. Folks of every age, shape and color are out on the floor and everyone is dancing with one another, sweaty and grinning and happy.

fun. I don't go to Summerdance as often as I'd like, which is a shame because it's a guaranteed happy-maker.

PFC is fantastic...the Stand By Me videos are fantastic IMO. Each one has something slightly different...:D

I have to tell you the impact this had on one person. I had a Chemistry Instructor at the local Community College, this woman is beyond what we might call "brilliant". She is a physician from Russia, has a Doctorate in Chemistry as well, (worked on Nobel winning team, she didn't get the prize, but was the primary reason the guy who got the prize got it), and an absolutely incredible instructor. She has the unique ability to look around a classroom and when she sees that "duh" look, she takes it down to where everyone understands what's going on, then takes everyone up by a notch at a time until we were understanding stuff that was pretty well over our heads...:D

Anyway...She developed cancer in her abdomen, and took a leave of absence to get treated back in DC, where she has relatives through marriage that are physicians, specifically oncologists. Needless to say, I didn't see here around, and talked to several people up at the college to get updates on how she was doing. I was told that the surgery was a success, and treatment by chemo was ongoing, but she was deeply depressed over being the mother of a 3 yo, and wondering if she'd live long enough to see the boy grow. I went up to the college and linked into the Playing for Change site, got the link for "Stand By Me" and asked one of the secretaries I know there if she could forward the link to Irena, (the instructor), via the internal college link, knowing she would get a chance to see it, and just say it was anonymous. Well, so much for trusting secretaries...she insisted on putting my name to it as sendee. Just this past Monday I was up at the college and saw Irena, she looks great, is back to work, and she told me that that video broke, "the spell of despair"; she knew others outside of her family cared enough to send such an uplifting message. She said she sobbed for a bit, then "got on my fighting face & decided enough feeling bad about what happened". One video, helped change a life for the better...I wonder how many more were affected positively by the timeless message..."You are not alone"...

75. I think this might be moving in the direction of my objection.
If they're so poor and in desperate need of help that a privileged white guy coming in and dancing with them is the only spark in their benighted lives, then maybe he should do something more than dance. "Exploitative, paternalistic, condescending" come to mind -- I feel like those words are too strong for what he's doing, but it still bugs me, nonetheless.
