If there is a hell, surely Pat Robertson's soul will burn for eternity in it!
http://www.salon.com/news/2010/01/13/haiti_robertson/index.html?source=rss&aim=/news

On his Christian Broadcasting Network today, televangelist Pat Robertson told viewers:

And you know, Christy, something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it, they were under the heel of the French, uh, you know, Napoleon the third and whatever, and they got together and swore a pact to the devil, they said, we will serve you, if you get us free from the Prince, true story. And so the devil said, 'OK, it's a deal.' And they kicked the French out, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free, and ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other, desperately poor. . . the Island of Hispaniola is one island cut down the middle. On the one side is Haiti, on the other side is the Dominican Republic. Dominican Republic is, is, prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc. Haiti is in desperate poverty, same Islands, uh, they need to have, and we need to pray for them, a great turning to God. And out of this tragedy, I'm optimistic something good may come, but right now we're helping the suffering people, and the suffering is unimaginable.

You ask yourself "What Would Jesus Do?". Well the last thing he would do is spew such hate about a country that is suffering so much. Hell Jesus would have been on the first plane down to Haiti trying to help out those in need.

1. Robertson is beneath contempt
And not only that, he's not too bright. The Dominican Republic has people in desperate poverty as well, but between baseball and tourism, they are trying to battle out of it.

2. Well damn them! They "got themselves free!"
Everything would have been perfectly fine if Strom Thurmond had become president and them goddamned Haitians hadn't gone and got themselves free.

Besides being full of crap about deals with the devil by Haiti, etc., Robertson doesn't know much about the Dominican Republic. It may have resorts etc. but it is still a poor third world country.

18. per capita GDP of DR is 7,400
Edited on Wed Jan-13-10 03:57 PM by hfojvt
for Haiti it is 1,300., For China it is 4,900. For the Ukraine 6,600. Egypt 4,900.

For Australia 36,700. For the U.S. 46,300. Ratio of U.S. to DR is 6.25. Ratio of DR to Haiti is 5.69. DR seems to be doing much much better than Haiti.

40. No question DR is better off than Haiti but per capita GDP is not a very good measure of wealth
Edited on Thu Jan-14-10 12:11 AM by yellowcanine
distribution. A relatively high per capita GDP can mean you just don't have a whole lot of people and/or you have a small number of really wealthy people and a lot of poor people. In fact, in spite of the fact that there are resorts, etc., in the DR, it is still has a lot of poor people and only looks good in comparison to Haiti, which has almost as many people on a lot less land area. Haiti has about 300 people per square kilometer as compared to DR's 200 people per square kilometer. Yes Haiti is poorer than the DR but the reasons have nothing to do with Robertson's fantasy of deals with the devil.

30. Pat's bible doesn't include the gospels
Just the old testament so he can pick bizarre scriptures to condemn others and the teaches of Paul, because Paul's ministry fit the goals of those who created the bible - using religion to control the masses and make money.

This is what I noticed. The racists say no aid when it comes to other racial backgrounds.

Even our "beloved" W was willing to let the African American community of New orleans die after Katrine despite aid relief offers from abroad.

20. He also doesn't know his history.

It was THE Napolean, not Napolean the Third. And while the only successful slave revolt in history was initiated by Voodoo priests and priestesses, it was still a toss-up before a Christian, clasically educated, house slave took over the reigns of the revolt (after helping his former masters reach safety).

Tousaint did something none of the other clasically educated Whites of his time thought of doing. All those educated in the classics (Roman and Greek) pretty much ignored the Roman military history. Possibly because the Roman military was largely peasant infantry rather than the chivalrous Knights the classically educated admired. Tousaint modeled his ex-slave army on the Roman military and defeated simultaneous invasions by the French, Spanish and British. At least, he outright defeated French and Spanish incursions while holding the British confined to a single fortified town.

He did fail in his invasion of Hispanolia (modern day Dominican Republic). Defense is always easier than offense.

Things might have gone much better for Haiti if not for two things. First, the French met with Tousaint to discuss a peace treaty (Tousaint wanted Haiti to remain a French colony, but with the slaves free) and betrayed their offer of free passage for Tousaint by kidnapping him. But that was okay. He was just a Black and a slave, so the rules of diplomacy did not apply. He would eventually die a prisoner in France. This left Haiti in the hands of uneducated slaves. And what does a field slave know about trade, budgeting, law, etc?

Second, nobody was willing to treat with them. Haiti was the world's largest exporter of sugar at the time of the revolt which is why the three super-powers eagerly atttempted to snatch up the place. Having failed to capture Haiti, Europe and America turned to Cuba and America for those exports. Britain had no problem buying sugar from their mortal enemies of France and Spain, but damned if they were going to buy sugar from the Blacks of Haiti.

Americans saw both a chance to increase their own sugar exports, and a threat to inspire revolt among their own African slaves.

Getting back to Tousaint, Napolean reportedly spent many evenings with Tousaint after his capture. This was before Napolean's great conquests at the helm of a new type of European military that looked more like the ancient Roman military than the other militaries of his day. Which makes one speculate, did Napolean's military genuis come from the mind of a Black Haitian slave?

21. People you have to know that there are two Gods that are judges of this world
The republican God the one that advocates war, that agrees that killing especially abortion doctors is ok, one that approves of torture. One that says it is OK to let people of a different color drown for lack of assistance. That it is ok to deprive little children of food by slashing assistance. But letting big business raise fuel oil and gasoline to outrageous prices, so people will freeze and not be able to drive to work. And that's just a few things the republican God approves of. OH talking to the a**holes in person we will forget about that one.

Or the real God, the one that is compassionate, forgiving, approves of helping the needy, thinks most wars are un-necessary, does not approve of torture and letting people die un-necessarily. THAT MY FRIEND IS THE TRUE GOD AND NOT THE REPUBLICAN GOD.

39. When I listened to what he said, it sort of came across as if the devil
himself had given him that information. It would seem by his reasoning that he's a friend of Old Scratch himself and that they throw back a few bourbons together every now and then and discuss who is going to Hell. Of course I don't believe that and instead think it's the ranting of a demented, crazy person.
