President of Haiti, "I have no place to sleep tonight." |
|
Just now in an interview on CNN.
When the president of the country is homeless, that tells you how bad the situation really is.

It was obvious he hasn't slept in a long time. He certainly had no sleep last night and may get no sleep tonight.

then all of that needs to be put on the back burner to deal with the daunting task at hand. Organize the help being offered and request more.

Haiti's debt should be written off or otherwise eliminated.
A lot of basic necessities (like, perhaps, means for water purification) will likely be needed, but distribution may also require helicopters, and communication may require satellite phones.

19. And if advanced technology won't serve, |
|
human labor (preferably, paid labor) can accomplish significant works using simple (or sometimes even no) tools, like moving goods by wheelbarrow, cart, bicycle and foot. And work gangs can clear obstacles, "portage" (or "conveyor-belt") goods over vehicle-impassable areas to be reloaded, etc.

34. There is something very demoralizing about this |
|
their president as lost as everyone else. That must just add to the sense of helplessness people in Haiti are feeling.
The picture of the destroyed Presidential Palace gave me such a sinking feeling. And the UN building collapsed and UN people dead. And the Arch Bishop of the Catholic Church. All the hospitals collapsed. That must completely undermine any sense that someone is in charge in the midst of all that chaos.
