In Haiti, American Red Cross Exhausts Medical Supplies
Source: NPR/AP

The American Red Cross says its staffers in Haiti have run out of medical supplies.

The Associated Press reports:

WASHINGTON (AP) - A spokesman for the American Red Cross says the aid organization has run out of medical supplies in Haiti.

Red Cross spokesman Eric Porterfield said Wednesday that the small amount of medical equipment and medical supplies that were available in Haiti has been distributed.

The Red Cross is sending more medical supplies to Haiti, but Porterfield says he does not know when they will arrive.

Porterfield says he doesn't know if the depletion of medical supplies is preventing victims in critical condition from being treated.

1. Only the U.S. military has the capability to deal with this crisis at this time
hope they can get medical supplies and other desperately needed supplies to the Red Cross and other NGOs.

3. Yeah but for GEOGRAPHIC reasons the US is taking lead on this
that said the Mexican Military is getting ready to launch humanitarian flights with their c-130s... as well as rescue and support.

The same goes for Canada. And for GEOGRAPHIC reasons these are the closest to scene with the capacity. Of course if you watch the US Media you will NEVER ever hear what others are doing, or for that matter that they have the logistics capacity for this.

6. look I think the world of Canada (I live just a few miles from the border)
and other countries are of course pitching in, but the blunt fact is that the U.S. military has greater resources than any other nation in the neighborhood.

7. The blunt fact is that we don't because of
two wars. Air Lift Command has many C-130s, you can bet your ass that flying supplies to Kabul is NOT going to stop any time soon, and that is where MOST of our lift capacity is, logistics to places like Kabul. There is a war on in case you wonder.

The blunt fact is that both the Canadians and the Mexicans have C-130s that are NOT busy supplying troops overseas. Well the Canadians do, but much less than we do.

I know, go USA all you want... some of us know that yes, we have resources, but this is not JUST US... of course watching CNBC you'd think this is JUST US...

And this is one of the problems by the way in ANY disaster. Quick, tell me, how many countries had boots on the ground during Katrina?

8. wrong. I suggest you familiarize yourself with the naval fleet
I'm actually dealing with reality here, nadine. If you really believe that because of the wars we don't have the resources, you have no idea what you're talking about. yes, yes, I know you're the wizard of all relief efforts. you tell us all so over and over and over and over. in virtually every thread.

and sorry, honey, I don't watch any of the tv programs like you do. Nor am I in the least rah rah USA- though I certainly support what the Obama admin is doing here.

now do continue with your supercilious bloviating.

10. Really, We and most other developed nations have some pretty good resources, and in this
day and age it doesn't take long to get them there. I imagine their nearest neighbours though have been helping since it happened. I hope Cuba sends their doctors and medical people as they did for Katrina. With the largest hospital destroyed and the others already over-filled, they'll be essential.
