1. Already done
And have passed along a few texts and emails encouraging others to do the same. And did so with pleasure.

6. Try this link at InterAction (associated with USAid)

they have a page full of organizations responding in Haiti - you can take your pick (including the Red Cross).

Also consider Doctors without Borders:
http://doctorswithoutborders.org/

Or you might want to consider donating to one of the many volunteer search and rescue organizations. There was an article this morning that told the story of one very experienced Scottish search and rescue group that was having to choose between going to Haiti and having their organization go under. They had 30,000 pounds in the bank and the trip would take more than 35,000. The volunteers had been putting charges on their personal credit cards for awhile, but most can't afford it anymore. Heartbreaking in its own right.

BBC has this page of links for donating:

edited to add BBC information

4. The American Red Cross in Haiti has run out of medical supplies.
They have distributed everything they had on hand and are waiting to be re-supplied and do not know when that will come.

5. Just did it - very easy way to help
The Red Cross then sends a text back asking for confirmation that you meant to send $10 for Haiti relief efforts. All you have to do then is respond "yes."
