When the going gets tough, turn to organized labor.

Phone banks are set up all over the Bay State. The Boston Teachers Union, the Teamsters, IBEW, SEIU, Unite Here, UAW, UFCW (united food and commercial workers), AFSCME, painters, plumbers, carpenters and on and on.

We know who are voters are and where they are. We also recognize that this is a tougher race than we expected. But we're ready. We know which of our members are registered Democrats and which ones always vote, especially in Democratic primaries. Registered Democrats who vote in every contested Democratic primary are 90% "sure votes" for a Democrat in a general Election. You can rest assured that we're on the phones. I, myself, will be manning a phone at IBEW Local 103 in Dorchester.

These are the same hardened political veterans who turned the Red State of New Hampshire Blue in 2004 and 2008. We are the folks who brought Jeanne Shaheen home 15 months ago. We are the "foot soldiers" that have assured the election of an entire Democratic delegation in Congress, every Constitutional office holder and 90% of the State Legislature. You need more than social Liberals to obtain numbers like that, anywhere. Oh, we love our allies, but our members are harder to convince. They're not so socially liberal as me and you. Economics drives them to the polls. That and loyalty. Loyalty to the labor movement and trust in their leadership. However, it won't last forever if we can't deliver.

We know where our votes are, and we will get them out. And rest assured, we will make the difference. Again. Someday, I hope they'll appreciate our hard and expensive work.

You sleep tight, now. The Massachusetts Labor Movement will save our 60th vote.

13. I'll still take my chances
and fight within the Democratic Party.

I still know which side of my bread is buttered.

I didn't make this system up, I just live in it.

Let me give you a little background about me. I was a 60's radical. I was politically active before I was sexually active. At 15 (I was born in September of 1952) I campaigned in New Hampshire for Eugene McCarthy and I was gathering signatures for Eugene McCarthy as I worked against the war in Viet-Nam. In 1968, after the RFK assassination, I figured we should all drop the two party system. Nixon won. Eight years of Republicans.

Then came Carter. I was 28 years old and a Massachusetts Democrat when I campaigned for Ted Kennedy against Jimmy Carter. Hell, Carter could have solved health care in his first term and refused. I wanted a real liberal. Ted was and has been my man. 1980. Split party. Enter President Reagan. Nothing in my life was a worse choice than letting that right wing piece of shit near the White House. He began to dismantle the middle class, and the rest is history. But I'm not done.

I entered the labor movement in 1989. In 1992, after Gephardt failed I supported Bill Clinton. We finally had a Democrat in the White House with a Congressional majority to boot. He wasn't everything we wanted, especially in trade agreements. Many of my fellow union activists said, "screw them" and we sat on our hands in 1994. We got a Contract with America. No group did more to create a "war on Labor Unions" than the 12 years of the Republican dominated Congress. It was almost as if we were hunted down, especially when they took over the Executive Branch in 2001.

I'm 57 years old now. I've seen it all, from a political perspective.

I know which side my bread is buttered on. I learned the hard way. A bad Democrat (and Coakley is not bad) is better than a Good Republican (and Brown's not that good).

By way of example. I'd rather have Ben Nelson (a bad Democrat) than Olympia Snowe (a good Republican) any day.

I know the difference and I speak from experience.

not the one I made yesterday, but please go ahead and channel yourself as needed.

22. The point is that your cynical reply was absolete within 24 hours

That is the problem with your reflexive anti Obama hatred makes the shelf life of your offerings measurable in micro seconds.

While the results of the negotiations were not announced until after your reply the fact that the unions were scheduled for an appointment was already known.

But why wait to see what the facts.

Do not tarry other threads await and are begging for equally cheap shots against the President.

Of course by tomorrow they will no longer be 'operative'.

I hate Obama and my secret plan, in March of 2004, was to sign up for the DU and make about 5000 posts so that when the time to strike was just right, I could. Clearly, that time was yesterday when I suggested that union workers campaigning for the Senate's 60th vote may very well end up getting a part of the health plan that they are campaigning AGAINST as a result. Obviously, this was intended as a cheap shot at the president and in no way reflect the situation as it was publicly known at the time. :sarcasm:

Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed with your ability to see the future, your amazing wit, or your insight that provides you the unique ability to read a handful (or even just one) post and diagnose someone as having a reflexive anti-Obama hatred.

While you're busting out the douchebaggery anyway, I think I suggested before last weekend that Philadelphia Eagles would beat the Cowboys, so if you want to head on over to the Sports forum and tell me that the Cowboys already won, that's an option.

Of course, I apologize that my comment became obsolete so quickly, and in the future I will try to stick to speculating on things like the 2020 presidential election.

Thank you for your concern. :)

24. thanks for your hard work
unfortunately the only people I know in MA are Republicans and I don't want them voting (they're the Mitt Romney corporatist types who could care less if you are not born with a trust fund) and I sure as hell won't be reminding them to vote.

1/19 is already going to be a dark day politically (as NJ's new governor, a Rove protege, takes office) and I don't want a double-whammy.
