I was in the office today. There came a knock on the door. A woman in business attire was standing there, briefcase and clipboard in hand. I answer the door. Two dogs, one very big with very big teeth, at my sides, barking like mad. She asks to see me by name. I own up to being me. She says she represents some business coalition or other - a typical RW sort of name that most often means the opposite of what it says; anyway, my sniffer went up.

She launches her spiel. I smell it coming so I allow the dogs to continue caterwauling and snarling. She says she represents a group that are "as concerned as we know you are about the state of government and this whole health care fiasco."

I interrupt her. "I agree its a fiasco." She smiles as if she just hooked a fish and wanted to go about setting the hook deep. (She's selling total crap health insurance, is what she's doing. I've heard this spiel before.) I continue, "I think its a real fiasco. But not for the reason you think. I want government health care. I want insurance companies out of business because they're blood suckers. I'm a communist. I think we'll disagree, don't you?"

She agreed. We'd disagree. She wished me a good day and left as fast as her sensible flats would carry her from my door.

That's the most intelligent over-the-fence sort of health care discussion I've ever heard tell about. Mine are usually with older cousins who are drunk on the Kool-Aid... nothing I can say to them matters.
