BBC News - In pictures: Haiti under rubble (GRAPHIC)

An injured man is ferried away by friends on a push cart in Port-au-Prince the day after Haiti's devastating earthquake. Readers may find some of the images in this gallery distressing.

As aftershocks continued to rattle the capital, Haitians who still had homes were afraid to go back indoors.

With the city's scant emergency services hampered by blocked streets, bodies were left in the open.

Other dead bodies remained entombed in the rubble of fallen buildings.

Many of the injured had to wait in the street for proper medical treatment.

Some of the luckier survivors were treated for their injuries in makeshift hospitals.
