1. Amazon is providing space to donate on the web. Many
of the ngo websites are overwhelmed.

However you choose to donate, please do so. The devastation is beyond anything any of us has experienced. And it won't be fixed in a week-long news-cycle.

2. I'm encouraging DUers to donate to the 1st group on your list, Action Against Hunger

b/c just about everyone else is giving to the Red Cross and Doctors w/o Borders who are handling medical supplies and care. Action Against Hunger is a top-rated group who has been in Haiti since 1985 employing locals to work on water, sanitation, and shelter needs as well as food, so they should be very effective at providing those things depending on donations. All are obviously needed, but Action Against Hunger has a lower profile, so it can use our help more.

3. That sounds a like a good idea, though I hope that their people on the ground aren't dead.

That's one of the problems is that many organizations with big roots in haiti are still trying to contact their workers on the ground and fear they may have been killed :(

4. Thank goodness, no. Apparently their base of operations is in another part of the island.

According to their website they are functioning and are on overdrive. https://www.actionagainsthunger.org/donate/earthquake-haiti?s_src=homepage&s_subsrc=haiti

Action Against Hunger has launched an immediate response to assist the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Our teams on the ground are already carrying out rapid evaluations across the city, while additional support, equipment, and materials—including water treatment supplies, emergency vehicles, and communications equipment—are en route from our bases in the city of Gonaives. Our initial response will anticipate severe difficulties in access to drinking water. High rates of chronic malnutrition and the likely destruction of food stocks are also of immediate concern.

ACF responds to emergencies like this all over the world, delivering life-saving assistance to millions of people in crisis every year. We are able to provide critical emergency assistance—and help communities regain their livelihoods and secure food and water supplies for the future—thanks to the generosity of donors like you.
