What that means is that most people who read this thread are going to go to their graves thinking he said something he didn't. They won't read the link, and if someone tries to show them what he actually said, they will ignore that because they've already formed their opinion. There are people wishing him death over this quotation of yours. There is one asshole wishing anyone who didn't want him to die from his recent heart issue dead.

I don't really much care if people hate Limbaugh--I've hated him longer than a lot of people knew he existed--but there's still a matter of accuracy. I'd rather people hate him for the evil he is, than for the evil he is rumored to be.

I know every one is calling Rush Limbaugh every foul name they can think of - and wishing all sorts of horrible things on him. I can't even be angry. I find the plight of the Haitians heartbreaking. Anyway, it's simply not true that Haitians produce nothing. So, it's really sad that many Americans don't realize we are able to buy cheap stuff we don't need because the people who work to produce it live in poverty.

Those of us in the USA who like to feel so superior to the rest of the world should remember we were damned lucky to be born in a country with an abundance of natural resources, homogeneous enough to be a superpower in the world while still a democracy that affords its citizens freedom. The entrenched poverty of the Haitian masses could be used to force them into low-paying jobs sewing baseballs and assembling other products.

But USAID had plans for the countryside too. Not only were Haiti's cities to become exporting bases but so was the countryside, with Haitian agriculture also reshaped along the lines of export-oriented, market-based production. To accomplish this USAID, along with urban industrialists and large landholders, worked to create agro-processing facilities, even while they increased their practice of dumping surplus agricultural products from the U.S. on the Haitian people.

This "aid" from the Americans, along with the structural changes in the countryside predictably forced Haitian peasants who could no longer survive to migrate to the cities, especially Port-au-Prince where the new manufacturing jobs were supposed to be. However, when they got there they found there weren't nearly enough manufacturing jobs go around. The city became more and more crowded. Slum areas expanded. And to meet the housing needs of the displaced peasants, quickly and cheaply constructed housing was put up, sometimes placing houses right "on top of each other."

I have seen enough and while some of these people are probably fine, as a society, they have managed to do little but create squalor and disease. Haiti's only notable export has been AIDS, and even that did not begin there...

The fine people of Singapore have built a sparkling jewel of a city in a mere 50 years with a similar population and starting point. The people of Singapore were brought as Coolie labor from China, India and other places in the British empire to work plantations. The Japanese devastated the city/state during WWII, but the Singaporeans rebuilt... and rebuilt... and rebuilt... and they did not whine about how whitey kept them down. They did not murder all the whites when they got independence... they got busy building an awesome city/state.

Haiti's story was a bit different. Sort of like if Al Sharpton suddenly found himself in charge... The Haitians went on a rampage and murdered nearly all of the whites in 1805 and have reaped what they have sown. A turd-world African failed state in an otherwise largely prosperous hemisphere - every single nation in our hemisphere - except Communist Cuba - is far more prosperous than anything Africa can claim - except Haiti. 200 years after the butchering of the white French, Port Au Prince is still a sewer.

I hope the people do not suffer needlessly, they are fellow human beings. However, Haiti is reaping what it has sown. Nothing good will ever come out of Haiti. Nothing good ever has.



The problem is not the geography, but the people.
